Exhaust Loudness

I see you're in Dubai Andrewg ... I find that temp and humidity even has an effect on exhaust sound ... what counts is that we're each happy with our choice but 3" is the key to the deep sound I think as my previous Borla Touring catback was 2.5" and didn't sound nearly as deep as my MF axle-back and I've always loved the deep Borla sound but in this case the MF's out did them.

I too thought the MBRP Race was the way to go in terms of sound and tone (deep rumble) but I ended up getting the Magnaflow Comp axle-back 19103 which keeps the STOCK resonator (so NO drone). I'm SOO glad I did as I've literally not listened to the radio once except to get a traffic report before leaving the house.

I should also mention that I had a Borla Touring cat-back which just didn't do it for me and is now up for sale. The Magnflows are louder but man what a classic V8 rumble ... I find any excuse to go out in the car now. It and the 93 tune are tied for best mod in my book.

If you get the MBRP it'll be way louder than stock btw. It's looks basically like the 19103's with the same sized mufflers out back but with an H-pipe in place of the stock resonator ... you'll be disappointed I think on the loudness.

I actually had a chat with my dad this morning about the loudness of the MBRP Street catback (seriously, don't get the race unless you LOVE drone inside the cabin)

I said its loud, but not ear splitting - so he recorded a video of it on a cold start-up and... oh dear :lol:

On initial start-up it's kinda loud but then settles down. I'm in my early 50's so loud & obnoxious is not my thing. With my intake mods (and yes they do change the exhaust sound believe it or not I've found), I'm finding it's about stock sounding + 25% ... actually found it's quieted down in the few weeks I've had it.

Saying that, I've got a boy with a riced up Civic on my street, with a total fart can for an exhaust - I'm therefore 'conservative' in comparison!

I thought the general consensus was they got quieter after 500miles or so!?

Tone changes a bit. Some get louder (Deeper) some get harsher, others get quieter, depends on the exhaust.

General rule of thumb is they get a little more tame with a deeper tone or raspyness increases depending on style of exhaust. In my case it went from super boomy and loud on first 500, to a deeper burbly sound after 500.

The inside of the pipes build up with exhaust soot/carbon so I'd say quieter. Now if they're cheap mufflers and the fiberglass batting (or whatever it's called) starts to burn out then yes louder.
