I've gone and ordered the MPRB based purely on tone. One advantage is that being a full system I don't need to cut the stock pipes, so if it is too loud for me I can always go back to stock and reassess the situation. Will be a week or two for delivery yet

No problem! I only did it because I wanted the tips to stick out a bit more. Bit I do agree with you about the noise, I think it gets emitted into the rear valance and gets put "into" the car, rather than fully out of the back.

Image below is how they are now, before they were inline with the black diffuser/valance.
This explains a lot. Just had my MF Comp AB installed & wow, sounds great from behind but I'm shocked at how noisy it is inside. Just read this, checked out CY Pony's vid & they have it out like yours. Mine is flush with the valance.

Looks like a trip back to the garage

I too had a concern about cutting the stock pipes but it's cut in such a place that simple exhaust clamps would join the 2 stock pieces back no problem. Something like this: https://www.amazon.ca/Vibrant-Stain...3_9?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=23TJN0KJXW3YA16GRPET

Good luck with it.

All good info. Thanks.

I have the MRT h-pipe on its way and was planning on adding some axel backs when I hear what I have. Maybe worth waiting and seeing where I stand.

I really don't want the neighbours annoyed like I hade with my last cars.
Hope you've ordered the h-pipe locally cos the thing about the MR T is "it ain't gettin on no plane, sucka". I'll get my coat ;)
Bit before Manders time there...

I looked/listened long and hard at the MBRP as I wanted something loud, aggressive and with black tips. In the end went for the Milltek as it fitted the bill and we were being offered a good deal which imo gave me a better quality system for much the same money once taxes and shipping were taken into account. If that hadn't happened I think I would have been very happy with the MBRP.

Got the Magnaflow competition cat back. I'd say it's a bit louder than the Roush at idle/low revs however the tone is quite a bit deeper so isn't obnoxious at cold start. Roars when you put your foot down althought potentially not as loud as the Roush at WOT. It's a perfect deep muscle car grumble IMO. Bit of drone when accelerating between 1700-2500 only in 6th gear but downshift to 5th and it's gone. I never hear drone any more as I know where the drone spot is and just drop into 5th before I put my foot down. It's perfect for a daily driver IMO.

Quick easy question.

Can someone confirm it's 2.5" from cat back?
Going to order some clamps today. Looks that way on all photos I can find.

I've got the tail section sitting at home in the garage ... will measure when I finish up work to be 100% sure.

I just got the same fitted but in Axle back form. Perfect, deep rumble, muscle noise outside but more inside than I thought they'd be. Don't really hear the engine any more unless you boot it which is a shame.
Do you find this with the Cat back (or anyone else's exhausts?)

Do exhaust sounds change slightly as they 'bed' in, in anyone's experience or is this a myth?

Col3371: Exhaust sound will change a bit as carbon builds up on the inner pipe walls but I've always found it's for the better.

I'm surprised about your "don't really hear the engine any more" comment ... the exhaust sound is the engine so not sure what you mean. I find that the sound at idle is about stock after it's warmed up and yes everytime you dip into the throttle is when you hear it but I'm personally ok with that. For me it's the best sounding exhaust I've ever owned. Give it some time and re-tighten the clamps after a few hundred km or so.

Good to hear, cheers. I'll give it a few hundred & see how it changes. Maybe it's just me getting used to it a little as well.

Incidentally, I reverse my car onto my drive a couple of feet from my brick, open porch so I find that idle is amplified alarmingly! As soon as she moves away, it's perfect so I guess I either get used to the amplified volume or change my parking habits (maybe my neighbours should decide this ;) ).

The Magnaflows no doubt are very deep (and at rare times I feel a bit too deep). I've also done similar to you where I backed into the garage so instead of the tips being at the outside edge they're a few feet away from the garage back wall and yep on cold starts it's pretty boomy. Once it warms up though ... music to my ears!

I can't imagine what the catback would be like ... at least the axle back retains the stock res.

Rev it in a closed/underground car park, it's a thing of beauty to hear the reverb and just how loud it is... even on the ecoboost...

Measured at 2.5" exactly outside diameter (OD).

The cat back is awesome. Absolutely love it. The x that replaces the stock resonator adds a tiny little bit of rasp up top in the rev range. Never been a fan of the rasp and always went with H-pipes but the comp cat back only comes with an x and I actually quite like it now. Also note the axle back bolts up to the stock 2.5" pipe whereas the comp cat back is 3" all the way to where it joins the stock header/cat pipes so the tone is even deeper.

Decided on the comp as it drops so much weight getting rid of the stock resonator and mufflers. Plus it was 3" which will make a difference when I ultimately go with a turbo or supercharger. Not only that but the car is a manual and I want to install a WOTbox so needed a straight through muffler design. The tips are black too which goes with the dark theme of the car. Perfect for all my needs :D

For those going this route, i've got an issue currently with the rear BMR sway bar when the exhaust piping gets hot, expands and touches slightly causing a vibration so will need to jiggle it around to give it a bit more space. Didn't have an issue with the stock sway bar as there's a bit more room.
