Exhaust Loudness

I've pretty much narrowed down my exhaust choices just through listening to videos and peoples opinions/reviews.

What I want is a great 'classic' sounding overall tone with a bit more volume than the stock system.

What I absolutely don't want is something raspy.

My 2 favourites at the moment are the Roush axle back and the MBRP Street cat-back with H-pipe

In terms of tone (though I've not heard either in person) I'd give the Roush 8/10 and the MBRP 9/10 for what I'd ideally like but I am concerned that the addition of the H-pipe might make it too loud and me unpopular with the neighbours. My feeling is also that the Roush is pretty loud even with the stock resonator in.

Has anyone heard both of these systems and can compare/comment on the loudness?

I feel like the Roush is pretty much known to be the loudest of the AB's. Paired with a resonator delete (H or X pipe), it's probably not going to get much louder.

I'm in the same boat of wanting a bit more out of my exhaust without being the neighborhood A-hole. Have you tried JUST a resonator delete? That's what I'm running now. Just an H-pipe with everything else stock. I love how it sounds and it's definitely louder than stock without being crazy. I, and many others, would probably say that this is how the car should have come stock.

In any case, I'm starting to lean towards the MBRP Street setup as well. Just can't seem to make up my mind.

I've heard one with a h pipe cat back (Corsa I think?) and it's way louder, personally for me it's over the top.

If you can listen to them in person. If you can't id suggest getting cat backs and then think about a h pipe as an after thought.

Yeah I'd agree with that. Has quite a thunderous growl when starting up cold (I leave for work at 6am too !!). Not too bad when starting up warm, but still a very pleasant rumble which gets addictive to hear !! I find the Roush can be what you want it to be... Very loud if you hammer the foot down but also can be just a pleasant burble if you just cruise along

Just the Roush is fine.

Roush with a H or X pipe is EXTREMELY loud. Sounds brill, but peak volume is insane. Cold starts at 5am are painful, to be honest.

Im going on Friday to have my Ford Racing X-pipe replaced with a Magnaflow dampened X-pipe, hopefully to find a bit of balance.

Plenty of people just put an X pipe on the stock rear boxes which also sounds fab.

FWIW, my almost new Ford Racing X pipe will be for sale from Firday for a nice price

I think it's also worth mentioning that when I had my Roush ABs put on, the tips were all the way in (so not very visible). The sound it made in the car was crazy loud, and it droned a little as well at certain speeds.

I pulled them out as far as they'd go (so they stick out the back end now), and man what a difference it made. It's much quieter in the car now, you heard less with the window down (still loud) but much more pleasant driving.

I too thought the MBRP Race was the way to go in terms of sound and tone (deep rumble) but I ended up getting the Magnaflow Comp axle-back 19103 which keeps the STOCK resonator (so NO drone). I'm SOO glad I did as I've literally not listened to the radio once except to get a traffic report before leaving the house.

I should also mention that I had a Borla Touring cat-back which just didn't do it for me and is now up for sale. The Magnflows are louder but man what a classic V8 rumble ... I find any excuse to go out in the car now. It and the 93 tune are tied for best mod in my book.

If you get the MBRP it'll be way louder than stock btw. It's looks basically like the 19103's with the same sized mufflers out back but with an H-pipe in place of the stock resonator ... you'll be disappointed I think on the loudness.

For the sake of loosening a bolt to slide the tip back, i thought i would try this ..... Now i only did about 3 town miles last night but I'm convinced its made one massive difference !

Basically my convertible on roush AB's stock reso was 95% what i wanted... HOWEVER cold start up sounded super lovely when you don't want to annoy anyone, the next 5 minutes of driving where just too loud in IMO but once the car warmed up it took on a different note.....and was nearly perfect.

My tips like Pedestrians where slid quite a way in, almost flush with the valance, last nite i slid them out about 10-15mm (just about as far as you can without the clamp becoming less effective - 2 min job) and it to my ears sounds spot on now from cold (kind of what it was like when its warmed up before) ! the big test is tonite but I'm wondering this...

The tip needs to be a good bit past the valance to avoid the cold loudness, if iti isn't the noise eminates through to the cabin but disappears as the exhaust heats up and expands presumably just enough past the valance to quiet it down a tad.... well that's a complete guess but makes sense in my head lol

There was room for the tip to slide in further towards the muffler section of the AB which would i presume exacerbate the problem even more.... i suppose could be a reason why some people with it have said they didn't like it, the tips where mounted too far in ??????

Anyways will see what its like tonite....

No problem! I only did it because I wanted the tips to stick out a bit more. Bit I do agree with you about the noise, I think it gets emitted into the rear valance and gets put "into" the car, rather than fully out of the back.

yep, same as mine now amazing what a small difference makes in terms of the tips, surprised more haven't noticed it ....

I have the MRT h-pipe on its way and was planning on adding some axel backs when I hear what I have. Maybe worth waiting and seeing where I stand.

I really don't want the neighbours annoyed like I hade with my last cars.
