And hurting some internet myths about "flat TQ is better"

LINK:

So to conclude, you should remember that engine torque is a measurement that is not of much interest to us, as horsepower and the shape of the horsepower curve is what is used to determine acceleration potential. A ton of torque that occurs well outside of the usable power-band is useless and potentially dangerous to the engine as it creates very high cylinder pressures.
Figured you all would love this kinda "deep reading" over here.

Happy Boosting,

Very nice.

When I say I want a flat TQ curve, I am usually referring to the TQ up top.

The more TQ you make from 5K+ RPM the higher the HP is, vice versus.

I like a "peaky" HP curve myself. Where HP climbs and does not fall off hard and TQ stays afloat up top ;)

The S550 seems to have a power curve, with most combos, that puts it ahead of the competition.

I have an engine on the engine dyno that literally is the definition of terrible.

TQ peaks early, and falls like a rock...
HP peaks in the middle, then falls as well...

Lucky its a boat motor, so you can't notice it like you would a car.
But makes you question the "design" of the motor, considering how marine engines operate.

Marine is extremely different as they need low end torque to get on plane. In many cases, some of the larger boats need to make over 600ft/lb below 1600RPM to get the boat on plane, since they don't have a transmission and never shift.

I think this article is a bit misleading as it's using a NA power curve. Not sure I've ever come across a hp/trq curve like that on a supercharged Coyote. It also has a great deal to do with the gear splits, RPM range and how many shifts/gears.

It is informative so I appreciate the link, but wish it had better examples since NA is not on my radar :D

We need this kit for the S-550.
Nothing stopping you from using that blower on a S550. (actually the S550's Stage 2 intercooler is even better then whats in this C7)

But the difference comes from the cam design in this motor, and that its 6.2L, and forged from the factory. ;)
