I will state in advance that this thread is more of a 'feeling' out. I understand there might not be much of a 'point' but it feels good to vent to those who have a car that has intrigued me quite a bit.

I have never been a Ford fan. Well, that's a lie. I wanted an F-150 when I was a boy, but the older I grew, the more they just became crap to me. I understand that might offend quite a few, but don't take it that way. My first car I owned was a Chevy, and that pushed me much, much farther away from American cars. The only redeeming thing was the manual gearbox, beyond that, it was boring, sedated and lackluster.

Thankfully, a childhood friend of mine hooked me up with an unbeatable offer on a BMW, and I now own one. I love it, but I can't help but feel it is missing something. Comfortable? Absolutely. Refined? Definitely. It just never feels insane. I'm 24 years old, engaged (wedding in the next two years) and babies in a (near) distant future. I want something 'fun' before the future wife knocks me down.

I first saw in the Mustangs (the S550) a couple months ago, a premium GT and spent about 20 minutes in it. I didn't drive it (dealership wasn't open!) and was just floored by the interior. Infamous for being cheap, it felt nice, it felt more personable than my own BMW (I own a 3 series, nothing too crazy).

So, on to my point. Months passed. Reviews read. Posts stalked. Hours upon hours spent on YouTube watching opinions. Finally, I want one. EB or GT, is completely undecided but I want one. I want the exhilaration. I have personally always wanted an M3/M4 and I feel like, the Mustang, mainly the GT is probably the closest I will ever get to that. (If any of you have experience of the two, please do share).

Can anybody relate? The old lady told me she is okay with me getting it (mainly to keep me happy) but I am hoping, something like this would? I have an accident settlement coming up, as well as a new, much better paying job, that is making me question taking a HUGE leap of faith.

Just looking for some opinions. Feel free to share (or blast me).

Many people here are first time Ford owners because of the S550 redesign. Myself included. Love the car.

Couple of kids in my neighborhood have previous generations. Most (not to offend) are ridiculously ugly. A lot of them make them look worse with horrible mods.

This is quickly becoming a contender on my list. I never thought it would. I'm hoping driving it will be as fun as I hope. A tad worried about the handling.

I'm 23 and single and I love it. Picked it up on Friday after a 12 month wait, now with the Corsa exhaust it is like nothing else in the Aussie market. The shape is incredible, people stare as you drive down the street or stop and walk around when you're parked. Our market is a little different though, we only have around 3000 in the country. I'm absolutely stoked with it.

A girl yelled "nice Maserati" at me on Saturday night, obviously she was a little off but that should tell you how good these cars look. The Xtreme catback probably had something to do with it as well haha

I love mine..

But, there is no "insane" factor. They are very refined and you don't know how fast you are going until you realize the speedometer is reading 100+ outta nowhere.

Compared to my other Mustangs { Foxes and a SN} this car is like a Caddy.

Oh wow? Only 3000? I haven't seen many Mustangs, and I live in Ohio. I've seen, maybe three or four GTs in the past few years. Quite surprising.

I love mine..

I've only been in two cars that have evoked that 'insane' factor. The M235i and the M5. The M235 because it went around corners at speeds that most cars would flip and die. My friend and I hit a corner going about 65, and the car felt like it was made to do it.

The M5 just had insane amount of pull. Emerging on the Interstate was absolutely insanity.

My current BMW is fine, but the 180hp (feels more like the 190s) isn't the most fun. It handles decent, but I want something that pushes it.

I've heard some mixed things, with some people comparing the Mustang to the M4 and so it has stroked much intrigue.

get a GT manual with performance pack, do some choice mods, and you will have an awesome car that I promise you'll love to drive every chance you get.

Go drive a GT if you want the full experience.

I'd recommend that you go test drive them.
I personally prefer the GT, but definitely drive the EcoBoost and V6 too to see what you think.

The S550 is very refined. But still maintains that classic Mustang spirit that has made the car so successful over the last 50 years.

I absolutely love mine.

Test drive is coming this weekend, for sure! I had planned on doing it for a while, but my Fiancee finally gave in. Planned on taking out an EB and a GT.

The Coyote motor makes more power in the upper rpm's. So driving it normally, it will feel "slow" for a car with over 400 hp. You can drive it normally, and average 20mpg pretty easily.

If/when you test drive it, try and get it into the upper rpm's in 2nd gear to feel what the motor can truly do. But please do it in a safe spot(highway merging maybe). To go from a 180hp bmw to a 435hp mustang will be quite a shock.

@OP It sounds like our backgrounds are somewhat similar...
  • Though I previously owned a couple of Fords, they were mostly utilitarian and I thought the interiors were very uncomfortable and poorly designed.
  • While you went the BMW route, I went Lexus and had a supercharged GS400 and a GS350. Loved both of them for form & function and creature comforts.
The S550 is a completely different animal from previous generations. I was initially drawn to it because of the exterior design, but found that the interior is very, very nice. Comfortable and well appointed.

Is it perfect? No, but then what car is? For someone who has driven mostly sport/luxury vehicles, this car is a great representation of both... sporty without loosing the comfort factor and well appointed while still maintaining the ability to get out of its own way in a hurry.

Take the longest test drive the dealer will allow. There are some duds out there on the market

It found me too, and it feels so right
