This past Monday I finally got the mustang on a track with the local VW club at Waterford hills. Small tight track that doesn't really favor heavy higher HP cars. My goal was just to take it easy and feel the car out and learn how it handles as it is a different beast than my modified 95 Subaru.

I was very happy with the results. Totally stock the car was running 2 seconds faster than My Subaru was last year.

About halfway into session two I got the axle over temp warning  I ended up keeping sessions to about 10 minutes and allowing for a lot of cool down time in between to manage that issue.

Also running stock pirellis at almost full tread (2500 miles on them) around 38 PSI hot, really chewed through the front left tire. Outer edge is pretty feathered. It didn't feel like I was pushing it THAT hard. What are the factory camber specs?

Factory camber specs for the front fall squarely into the not nearly enough category.

Mine are 1.2L - 1.3R Factory.

I am going to try out my newly added FRPP track handling pack at Palmer tomorrow. The front camber is -1.5...which seems to be considered aggressive. My M3 was -2.5...it just meant the fronts wore out the same as the rears!

Nice vid. I thought the hot rod flying by was hilarious!

Yeah that thing is pretty serious

I'm used to running -2.5 in front on my other car which provided even wear and temps across the tires. And although I probably over drove the fronts, it feels like it could really use some more negative camber up front.

1.5 won't be enough to even out the tread wear and temps. Factory specs (yes even 'track pack' specs) are still for street cars and street usage. Ford 'track pack' is a branding label, not a serious recommendation for autox/track usage.

I had pretty good wear results (and grip!) running the fronts at 2.4.

Try to keep your hot pressures maxing out below 38psi with the PZeros. In my experience you do start loosing grip up above around 37 (unless you need it to keep the front tires from rolling over). Pressure that high in on the rears will wear a band in the middle of the tire pretty quickly, which can shorten your tire life significantly (first hand experience)

Yeah, I thought the -1.5 being described as aggressive was funny.

The track pack is a compromise between DD and 2-3 track days/year, and good value at $1100 plus install. I had Konis on my old M3, but my days of >9 track days/year are over! :(

Sounds like a perfect choice for that application! Hope you like, and interested in your impressions.

Do you have traction/stability off? I'm in the market for a s550 as a HPDE car and the only thing holding me back is transmission/differential overheatnig.

I hope it's because stability and traction was on and not because of a design flaw.

I had the stability control and traction control completely off.

It may have lasted full sessions if I had allowed more cool down time, but it was a small private event with only 2 run groups so it was 20 min on, 20 min off cycles. I will be doing an event Saturday at a brand new facility and see how it does.

I have a feeling a diff cooler will be part of the plan....

Second track day today. Totally new track. It was kind of cool to be the first ones on it.

Starting to get more comfortable with the car. Still stock for now. I just have to figure out a way to keep the rear axle cool. Couldn't finish a session without the warning coming on
