But didn't you hear from the "experts" in the GT500 forum? Tires are only a very small fraction of the difference in performance between the CFTP and base car.

There is some tuning to the abs and traction systems that probably helps as well, but I agree with you. Aftermarket wheels, tires and maybe a little aero will get you 9.5/10ths to the cftp for around 13k less than the cftp. End of the day how much does a person really need the tuning? At that point it's a driver's race

I finally picked up some "track" stuff for the spring. PP belly pan and chin spoiler for brake cooling, new SVE R350 wheels in 19x10 which I'll be throwing some RE-71R 285/35 tires on, Steeda camber plates. From what everyone's said these should make for a nice daily driver/track car. I'm not too worried about power right now since I have an extended warranty so I'll figure that out in the future.

I finally got around to installing the PP chin spoiler, belly pan, and deflectors. Next I'm looking to brake pads. I was thinking about r12/r10 before but now I'm wondering if I will be better off with R10/R8. With the R10/8 would I be able to just switch out the pads? I believe someone said with the R12/10 I would pretty much have to get a second set of rotors or sand them down after each event before going back to the stock pads, would I have the same issue with the R10/8 pads? Also, I'll mostly be doing HPDE in the beginner/intermediate range for now, so taking that into consideration should I just run my PP pads until I advance some? I will be running 285 RE-71R tires which I know puts more strain on pads vs. the factory tires.

if you're in the same family of pads you can swap no problem. If you switch between compound families or materials is when you needs take extra steps. R10/8 would be the consensus I think. I'm sticking with the OE Ferodo pads for early on and then re-think once I'm looking at needing more. If you're lapping the track (Pitt Race?) you likely want RS4 tires, not the RE71.

The G-LOC R12/10/8 are all the same compound type. Therefore will not play nice with factory pads. Whether you go 12/10 or 10/8, you'll still need different rotors or sand yours down when switching to and from factory pads.

Also, just my opinion, but RE71R tires for a beginner in HPDE is WAY OVERKILL. If you have the money to spend, great, but otherwise this just seems like a waste of money. Look up lap times; if someone with lesser tires is faster than you, then you need seat time more than expensive tires.
