16 GT PP dead to me

... I can admit I am NOT 100% confident in this transmission yet and after reading this post am somewhat concerned...Time will tell how this tranny will hold up.

My main concern is cold weather performance. It seems like the gear oil gets too thick and the 1st-2nd gear synchronizer doesn't work as well when its cold. I will have to go through another winter to form an opinion on that.

Yeah i could never go back to an mt-82 especially after replacing 1 with a tremec magnum and experiencing the superiority of the magnum compared to it!

What happened to that car?

let me tell im really impressed with how fast the car is with these 3:55's. Instead of going with a blower set up for my new wheels like with my 2012, I'm going with a na build to 500 rwhp...should be tons of fun.

500 rwhp out of a N/A Coyote seems optimistic. What's involved with doing that?

I owned a Pontiac G8 GXP with the Tremec 6060 and that wasn't any different to me really than the Mustang GT's MT-82.

Head over to Camaro5 and you'll see plenty of people complaining about that tranny too.

I've found in the last 5 months my clutch impressions with this car went from "What the heck is going on here with my control" to "Damn that was some fun shifting right there!" Although, I don't like the driveshaft clunk when shifting gears. Probably harmless, just annoying.

I was half thinking both those thoughts myself. All other vehicles though.

What's the all time best liked manual transmission out there. Maybe we can use the internet to see just how liked it is. No offense to the OP, switching cars sounds fun.

Hopefully it's not a controversial subject like some of the others. Then again I don't know the history of the MT-82.

If the rough ride and clunky 6spd manual was something you hated,you would have really hated the 12/13 Boss. My 16PP is butter smooth in Comparison

I have zero issues with shifting the PP smoothly. I'm amazed people complain about the 3.73's but then again I've always driven sports cars with short gearing. I think the manual is just fine too, zero issues and I'd rather it feel firm than sloppy and vague. It makes me wonder what manual cars people that are complaining about the mt-82 are coming out of. My Z's, 944, and brz were fine, and so is this.

But if you're happy then that's all that matters, enjoy your car!

Different strokes. I learned to drive on a 4 on the floor. However, I live in a metropolitan area with lots of traffic. I love my automatic because a 6 speed manual is a no go here.

Not sure how this turned into a trans debate. It was many things about it I didn't like. Ya the notchy chunky clunk thud with every shift trans was an issue, and rough ride of pp, the impossible to keep clean wheels thanks to the brembos, the high gearing shifting so much and also screaming rpm at 85 on the turnpike on my daily drive, the horrible wheel hop at the drag strip trying to somehow get a consistent launch and not boil the tires grabbing second, not being able to rotate the tires, not being cold weather appropriate tires. Just all around mistake on my part for what I'm wanting to do with it.

As someone else said, what matters is that you're happy but regarding the stiff ride, the dealer delivered mine with PSI at 38 while the spec is 32. I personally have it at 34 but fyi for anyone that considers it too stiff for them.

Ya I had let the rears down to 28 fronts at 32. Upon initial delivery they were 44...

I think a big part of transmission preference is what you're using the car for, weekend toy or DD. I got the std. 3.31 gears and love it, but I'm not commuting with it. A smooth shifting auto certainly had its place in heavy traffic, and no doubt can launch more consistently.

The irony as I read the OP... My biggest regret on my Mustang purchase is not getting the PP. I thought I wouldn't need/want it - boy was I wrong.

I'm now considering doing this like upgrading the radiator, brakes, doing a PP interior/gauge swap, etc. and this will cost me more than just settling for the PP would have been. Oh well, you live and you learn.

Mustang PP should come with A/S tires, at least for any location north of Texas. Maybe Ford could allow you to choose summer tires on their build page.

I never warmed up to the PP wheels. Actually I don't like my base wheels all that much either. C/S wheels are cool and I like the Roush wheels shown in a previous posting.
