Not sure what to make (positive) of it, but when you type in "MT-82 transmission" on youtube all you get are clunky, whine, and problem vids.

Type in the name of any transmission in youtube and see what you get. People don't make youtube videos about transmissions that are working correctly, lol.

That's not exactly an empirical measure of transmission quality.

Car & Driver did an article on their favorite 400+ hp used cars. The 2011 Mustang Gt was their first choice. Under issues. MT82. It's a known issue. Has been for years. Baby it and you probably won't have issues. Drive your car like a Mustang and you are rolling the dice.

I'm glad I have the unicorn MT-82. Zero issues here, knock on wood. Just a hair over 10,000 miles. It was slightly notchy on the coldest winter days here, 5 minutes driving and it was gone. I have been mulling over the idea of some aftermarket fluid.

MT82 seems plenty good for a daily driver. The main problems I have seen here are people that cook their clutch or damage a synchronizer. And its not clear whether those are noobs, hot rodders doing hard launches, factory / assembly defects, or "Chinese" manufacturing.

Some may hate me for this but I beleive alot of these issues are from noob drivers or people not fully engaging the clutch while slamming through gears. Yes it's noisy, yes the shifter sucks but I doubt they can be as bad as I keep hearing. If so why are there so many of us buying these cars?

the mt-82 is more just a bad match for the car then it is a bad transmission. The star of the show in the mustang in the 5.0 that likes to eat to 7000rpm. If the tranny works fine all the way to 6k it's pointless if it can't work at 6800. The motor is a joy but the the rest of the car isn't up to snuff

To echo what another said, I would happily pay more for the car if it came with a tremec and everything else needed to be solid.

Well, yeah, I thought that as well. But there were also improvement part vids.

EDIT: What I'm more concerned with is Ford's customer service should something go wrong. Needs to be....ok, here's the loaner, we'll make sure it's fixed....not some game of convincing/hoping they fix it. Again, no experience to say that it's bad. Just what I would expect.

not sure I understood this. Plenty of people here have Paxtons and ProChargers that like high RPM. One guy has a Paxton and broke 6th gear, while "power shifting" from 5th->6th. He's definitely not your average driver.

Seems like the Ford custom build page could offer both MT82 and Tremec, along with an option for a ceramic racing clutch. Let people choose, and price accordingly.

I wanted a manual while getting this car but auto was the only available. Now hearing the crap about the manuals and driving one, I know my auto was a better choice, at least for me.

Wish I knew I could build like that. For sure would have gone performance pack with the tremec. BUT for now this is plenty. If it breaks build it better.

I get bored with Autos. Those are for rental cars. Or women who like to multitask while driving.
Your post isn't abrasive enough. I feel autos are just for guys who like to play with themselves while driving sort of like dark tint is just for the nose-pickers.

No we dont hate you, we understand that your defending your choice of a Chinese built tranny in an american car. that is your right and the world you live in. in the real world, where everyone else lives, you will find there are others have had real issues with this tranny. One day you will figure out that just because you haven't had an issue with your trans does not mean there isn't a problem. In your world, we who have had these issues are written off as if we dont know how to drive a manual transmission. Your sarcasm and inability to accept the testimony of others are noted.

You have this same transmission:

MGW shifter and new shocks like the koni wouldve corrected those main problems. Koni completely transformed the ride quality of the car to one like a luxury sportscar

We can argue back and forth all day but I am done. If you are afraid of a Chinese transmission maybe you should go buy a Different car and stick to auto. Have a blessed weekend! I'm gonna go bang some gears and enjoy my mt82

Oh and if fedso are investigating sounds like a may get a free upgrade haha wishful thinking but hey who knows
