I am sure many of us are in that pre delivery / build / boat phase, it would appear that both Rome and the Mustang are not built in a day, although the latter one has a longer lead time.

Any case - what on earth are you doing to fill the time. I would be grateful for any helpful hints as I am only in week 6 and am running out of things to plan etc. Let me know if you have new ones to add to my list below

[*]Hours and hours spent working out which exhaust sounds better on a you Tube i phone clip
[*]Reading forums to try and work out when yours might be due, grasping at every straw around shorter lead time
[*]Mods mods and more mods - and why buy them months before you even see the car
[*]Panicking when you read incorrect ordering issues and thinking if you too will start the wait again
[*]Worrying about all the supposed issues of bumper fit, puddle lights and hoping the PDI finds nothing
[*]Looking at Mustang reviews although you already bought one
[*]Working out the new perfect garage layout
[*]Trying to find your exact colour and spec match on images just to torture yourself

I could go on and on - but feel free to add to this. I have to find another possible 34 weeks of distraction yet!

Forums are the best distraction, also works for distracting from work ;).

Hunting mods is second on the list for me.

Attending meets now we're up and kicking with them will help you too ;). Or meeting people with them, happy to always show mine off to anyone near me or anyone who wants to travel.

Insurance might be another one to waste time, start getting some quotes running.

Planning where you're going to park

Practising how to drive a RWD car in a FWD car (lol). If you're used to a RWD or high powered cars in general, it's a different ball game so would advise taking some tips on how to drive a rwd and get them ideas planted into normal driving habbits before picking up - don't want you ringing it into a wall!

Silverstone was another distraction for me...

But then again, who needs distractions when you can just talk about your car to everyone and anyone who will listen :D :D :D :D

Watched A Faster Horse on Netflix twice, spent just over 2k on mods (more to come), daily visits to the forum and tracking site. Gleaning enough info for a smooth install on each item. Boring anyone that will listen to me talk Mustang. Apart from that it's been easy but my wait was only 5 months this time around.

luckily work is keeping my busy... as is a new puppy but if I had a job which allowed me to day-dream too much I would be close to climbing up the walls by now.

Now that she is built, I'm much calmer as I know she is sitting somewhere as opposed to being a mass of unassembled bits spread across north america, where so much can go wrong!

Now I'm beginning to seriously look into the financial side of things to make sure she happens. I forsee that keeping me busy for some time i.e. do I go PCH? Do I take the dealership finance for a whole purchase? Do I take a bank loan, or do I take 2 bank loans from separate banks to lower the interest rate... what about GAP insurance... etc etc!

Add to that creating a CJPP account and creating a wishlist of mods!:headbang:

I would hope no one is getting a Mustang (especially a GT) without having driven a RWD car previously. That's the kind of questions insurance companies should be asking rather than "have you specified an optional extra," as surely not driving a RWD car previously is more of a risk than specifying a rear parking sensor!

I went from a 1.2L Corsa (previously a 1L yaris) to a 2.3L Turbo Mustang... Think that's a pretty big step. I had 0 RWD experience as well, no car I'd ever driven on race experience day things were RWD, in fact, they were almost all AWD's.

But yes, it should be a question they ask, specialist insurers did ask me / refuse me due to lack of experience. As long as ur not a prat, the car is easy to drive.

Yep, it's a big step. But I suppose you understand the difference between over and under steer etc. And you've probably got more of a clue than your average Joe.

Anyway, yes, back to topic and back to work!!

Somewhat, Silverstone helped a sh1t-load, probably one of the single best driving experiences I could have had prior to buying a car! :headbang:

Never owned a rwd car. Never had a car with more than 170bhp. Picking up a GT next week. Insurance was ÂŁ320.

I'll be taking it steady for a long time I think!

As for filling the time. You find ways. Most them will annoy those close to you as you become more and more obsessed.

Soft right food, don't accelerate, break, or change gears in corners, keep wheels spinning at a constant speed through corners naturally slowing is fine. No brash flicks on the wheel. etc etc sure you've heard it all before, but the best point I got told was from my Silverstone instructor which was 'Treat the accelerator peddle like there's string between you and the wheel, when turning release the peddle more and more, when beginning to straighten up slowly apply more power, on straights you can unleash'. Also snow/wet mode is great for any rain, really makes the car that much more tame. :headbonk:

I would go to an empty car park or open space and get a feel for the car. What the kind of limits are before the back spins out? What it feels like for the back to spin out and can you correct it quickly enought? Etc. A FWD especially only 170 bhp is completely different

Bought a mountain bike. Well, to start training on RWD :D

Just kidding. Already got a pickup with a rear end looser than Debbie Dallas:eyebulge:. Had plenty of RWD training the past 2 years in the Scottish highlands.

All jokes aside, the mountain bike ride does help when things get a bit much.

well I ordered my car in April 14 and collected it in November 15! It was one hell of a wait and this forum helped more than anything. Having said that, I was on the forum talking to a load of other guys also waiting. It must be torture seeing us guys that have got our cars.

I just spent hour after hour researching mods and deciding what to do with my car once I had it.

It aint an easy wait

I think it's part of what is going to make the car so special to us when they arrive, the wait we have and are going through, how many car owners will even experience a year + wait for a car?

I'm passing my time here now I've found this forum and ordering mods that are going to be with me months before the car. Thankfully work, 2 kids a dog and a paterner that's just set up her own business keeps me very busy and my mind off the wait for about a second a day
