So one of my biggest gripes about this car was that the clutch was a feather! I hate that!! I came from stick cars and I had a stage 2 on my 03 GT. Those years were cable-linked clutches so your foot was physically moving the pressure plate. I thought my 2007 GT was already light. When I got this car, I almost wanted to give it back. Anyways, I took out the spring, and it's so much better!!! It's not as stiff as my 03 but about as stiff as my 2007 which is decent. If you thinking about doing it, I suggest it. Unless, of course you like the light clutch pedal feel.

I'm considering it, been hearing people say they like replacing that spring much better than the stock. I think I'm doing alright in mine now though. It's been about 11 years for me since I last drove a manual in my old '85 5.0, and I've been chalking up any sort of awkwardness on my part with how long it's been since I've had the pleasure of owning a manual and working a clutch.

according to steeda, no spring=slave cylinder leaking
I read that too. When I googled that issue, I heard it was just marketing ploy with little truth to it. I don't know how much I believe that because the 2005-2009's didn't have that spring and their master cylinders were fine. Also, doesn't the pressure plate cause the clutch pedal come back up anyways?? There are some guys who have over 100k miles on it without that spring and fine cylinders. Would love to hear people's thoughts on it though.

Have the Steeda spring in, so much better than stock! Would recommend everybody to do that day one.

Read that some people had the problem that the clutch is not coming 100% back without a spring, so I prefer the Steeda spring. $10 item vs risk of damage over time

The older Mustangs also had a torsion spring on the pedal pivot which made the pedal go all the was back up, even without the assist spring.

In the S550, without the assist spring the pedal will not go all the way back up. There are 2 or 3 super long threads about the assist spring.

Steeda Spring after shipping is like $17.00... worth every penny.

I have the Steeda spring and removed it. Felt way to similar to the stock spring to me. The spring was added to appeal to a different group of customers. From my research and experience with many clutches, it's not necessary.

there's definitely a difference between steeda spring and stock...but as with anything you'll get used to it.

I'm in the minority... I love the feathery light clutch on the S550!
So easy to drive.

I sold an s2000 with about 3ft lbs of torque and a light flywheel to get this gt, needless to say I had no issues.

Even if it did feel weird to me the learning curve would have been a fair trade off for a light clutch, my ankles/knees have begun their old man feels.

I also had an 04 gt with the cable clutch, don't miss it one bit.

My clutch returns 100% to top without the stock spring. No steeda spring needed.

I bought the spring a couple weeks ago and planned to install it last weekend. I was at my wit's end this past thursday. It was the worst day I'd had yet with regard to the jerking and general annoyance factor. Like magic, on Friday it was awesome for the most part, and every day since. I don't feel like I'm driving it any differently or if it's breaking in a bit (i'm at one month and almost 2k miles), but it's been no big deal since that day. Still not sure if I want to put the steeda spring in there or just leave it alone. I wanted to teach my wife to drive it though, so it might be best to go ahead and swap it in.

Haha I also came from a stage 2 clutch on my 02 GT, however, I love the feather weight in the S550. In my 02 GT I felt I was doing leg press and disliked being in bumper to bumper traffic. I got used to the clutch in the S550 and not a problem for me but I will probably still try steedas assist spring
