100% city driving @ 1000 miles ODO and averaging right at 17.1
With an unusually heavy right foot, I'm meeting rated MPG so I can't complain.

Over the past 2 weeks, my overall mpg has increased from 22.9 to 23.5, and still climbing. Maybe b/c of summer blend?

Rented a V6 in seattle and drove for about 3 days. 50/50 city/highway driving with a really heavy feet tho. The trip computer indicates 22mpg (87octane)

1st tank 50/50 city and highway = 24.2mpg
2nd tank 50/50 city and highway = 23.9mpg so far

To be fair, as the engine is getting broke in more, I'm running the engine out a bit more.

I'm not sure if it's just because my car is new but it keeps getting better. I switched to super unleaded 93 octane and it jumped 2mpg. Hovering at 26.7 in mixed driving. Very impressed. With the jump in mpg I will run super. Gonna try 87 again next time and see if it drops. If it does, I'll stick with 93. It's not supposed to make a difference with these engines but if the knock sensor retarded the timing on the 87, I can see why. I never heard any knock ever. My old F-150 I had knocked on 87 it was rated for. Had to run 89 to keep it running right. Dealer said they could adjust to make it not knock on 87, but I said I would run 89 and they said that was the best option for the engine. So rated octanes are not always what they are cracked up to be. Had a family member once who ran 87 in his Lexus. Knowing high performance Japanese engines, I told him he was saving nothing. Reduced mpg negates the money savings. Every car is different. I'm wondering to see what happens when I switch back to 87 on the V6 Mustang. Will report back here. I notice no improved power on the 93, but who's gonna feel 5-10hp on a 300hp engine?

Just crossed 2500 miles...

Up until now probably 80/20 city vs highway....and the city driving is always hill-filled and spirited.

Always got around 20-22mpg until yesterday. First long trip at state highway speeds...55-65mph. Did a round trip of 140miles which yielded 27.8 mpg.

Happy to see it's just my foot influencing the tank.

Overall mpg bumped up from 22.9 to 23.2 after a highway trip of nearly 300 miles. The average for the trip itself is about 28 mpg.
5 weeks later, and now my overall fuel efficiency is 24mpg, with the current tank running at (almost) 27mpg so far.

Must be the summer blend.

My Cyclone Mustang vert "seems" to run a bit better on 93 octane and Royal Purple full synthetic ...mixed driving 25-28.6 without trying...long 300+ mile trips 29.3 without hyper-mileing. And yes, I too noticed that the car's mileage improved after about 6,000 miles.

Just drove 50 miles out and 50 miles back for Mothers day, this was the Mustangs 1st "long" highway drive. I filled up before the trip and ended up averaging 30.5mpg. Still breaking in, I have about 850 miles on it now.

So a jump to premium got you what, a little less than a 10% improvement? So if premium costs less than 10% more than regular, you're ahead. That means that if regular costs $2.00, premium can't cost more than $2.20.

That the way you have it figured, too?

Amazing things can be done with the programming on modern cars. It seems most are programmed to run a little rich for the first little while, probably to help avoid overheating the engine in the break-in period.

Where would you look for that programming? I figure it would be right next to the warranty expiration timer, right?

^^^Yes, that's right. And don't forget that the car probably performs a bit better on 93 octane...yea I know, some of you Dudes are about to throw the "BS flag" on that claim of slightly better performance with 93... But this Old Dude believes it is so!
