I'm interested in this too. I'm waiting on an entire pumpkin to be released, and I strongly feel this car would rip with 4.09.

I wonder if the GT350........0-60mph would be around 3.5 sec with this 4.09 gear???

I'm planning rear gears at some point in the future, but probably in a couple years when the stock gearing starts to feel boring. I'm hoping Ford will offer something a little steeper than 4.09 as well. I would be interested to learn other peoples' reactions to more gear. Certainly 0-60 will be improved over the stock gearing.

I read in another thread/in Ford's install documentation that the best and perhaps easiest moment to make this swap is when the vehicle is new. Something about having to deal with fewer replacement parts if you're doing a new to new swap.

Not really. Anything you would need to replace in a couple year old car would need to be replaced in a brand new one.

Also they said they were going to sell them not only as just gears, but a complete housing and gear set. So if you want a driveway swap, that is the way to roll.

It would be nice to have the complete housing and possibly swap back and forth depending on your planned uses. Of course that would require a programmer to be able to change speedo, etc. as well.

Would that part that's right above the gear set..the trans air scoop...would that help with our overheating issue on the tech cars?

Using the factory transmission gears in the GT350 (3.25, 2.23, 1.61, 1.24, 1.00, and 0.63), speeds (mph) in gears at the 8250 rpm redline with factory tires (27.4" tall) would be...

3.73 gears / 4.09 gears

1st = 55 / 50
2nd = 80 / 73
3rd = 111 / 101
4th = 145 / 132
5th = 180 / 164
6th = 285 / 260

Granted, the speeds for 5th and 6th gear are theoretical as if you're driving in a vacuum with no aerodynamic or wind resistance considerations.

Overall, snappier acceleration should occur with the 4.09's, while still maintaining the ability to hit 60 mph in 2nd and the 1/4 mile traps in 4th gear, so no real downside other than a tiny reduction in fuel economy on the highway.

I hope Ford performance is indeed going to sell complete pumpkins with the gears already installed. That would allow swapping gears back and forth without setting backlash.

The aluminum comes on the the automatics stock. Ford PP claims the iron housing is superior - but in the 350 it boggles me why it isn't aluminum. Or is it? No I'm sure it's iron with the aluminum cover.

Anyway a savings of 20-25lbs I could see for sure, which would also shift weight bias slightly to the front. So we have to be careful trimming weight from the back only to the have the front start to push during turn in.
