I'm running a set of 295/45/17 MTs ( old style ) and can no longer get them because M/T stopped making them ... Looking at a set of the M/T 305/45/17s Rs ? ..But the people I have talked to that have used them say they are crap and will not hook like the old M/Ts did ..

I want at least a 295 or 305 /45/17 ( 27 to 28 inch tall tire ) what is out there , what are you guys using and are they working ? I hate to waste 600 bucks on tires that will not hook ... The track prep at the track I run most of the time is very bad some days, some days it's good ...I need a tire I can trust ..

I just put a set of 275/50/17 M&H Racemasters drag radials on and ran them at our shitty hooking track. Dead hooked with a 2700rpm soft launch and 1.61 sixty foot.

With the M/T ( when new ) I was 1.50 60 footing leaving at idle ( automatic car with 3.55s) Now that they are worn out I have hell getting a 1.60 60 footer ... Had two 1.70s tonight .. I'm thinking of maybe going with a 17 inch hooser slick... Just a little worried about mixing radials and bias tires .. I have done it before on my roadrunner with no problem but still a little worried about doing it on the Mustang ..

Unfortunately I only got to make one pass because rain got to us. I was not sure how the tires would hook so I only came out at 2700. I will try a 3700 launch next time and see if I can dip into the 1.4s. I only have 3.15 gears, but do have the nice stall.

A guy with a supercharged c7 just bought the 305 MTs , should see how he likes them this weekend . The slicks are way more forgiving on bad track prep .

With an auto these are easily the best.

I'm not sure who would be telling you the Rs are worse than the old ones. They hook much better, but do not work well after being driven on for long periods of time. The 275 racemasters are also decent, but nothing like the R or a Hoosier slick. Ive used every 17" tire out there and the R is hands down the best thing available at the moment.

Well they didn't have to tell me , I watched it first hand Weds night at ShowTime ..There where 3 very pissed off people running them .. All low 6 second cars that pull the wheels pretty easy on other tires .. I just don't want to make a mistake , 600.00 dollar mistake ..:frusty:

Lol what.. You're comparing 6 second cars traction to your mustangs level of traction? You think it's a bad tire because guys with 6 second cars weren't dead hooking lol?

Let me tell you this and Sam from coastal knows he was there my first night. I had just bought my brand new 295/45/17 MT street radial 2's the very ones they stopped making. And I still couldn't cut better than a 2 flat 60 but after a short break in and a couple more trips to the track I cut a 1.594 60 foot and I'm currently the fastest intake tune and tire car on the forms at 11.787 @ 116-117's with no other mods besides those 3 stock exhaust stock everything. Oh yeah and that was in 1,900DA love that nice Florida heat.

The R's suck?

Hmmm....

My last 5 out of 7 passes have all been 1.2X sixty foot times - driven to and from the track.

Pulling the wheels a decent amount in the air. Car also hooks from 40 MPH on the street .

Not sure what they are doing wrong, but I am here to tell you, there is no way that a 295 MTII is going to outperform a 305 R. Not happening. (I have used both on this car BTW)

So the #3572 the 305/45/17, that one is really good, or probably the best ? I have some 17" wheels and have yet to decide on a tire. I was looking at those or the M&H in the same basic size. Thanks

His car is running high 6's, so I would call it a fair comparison. It's all about context.

I think your confusing The R tire with the RP tire. That's the go to tire most of the radial guys are running. But like I said, I have ran them all. Absolutely anything manufactured in a 17 drag tire and the R is the best there is. As Kelly said his auto car has went in the 1.2s on them, and obviously they are working for Mike. I'd take the advice of people who actually use the tires on the same vehicle as what your working with. As far as those other guys hating them, I feel that was probably a RP and not an R. And on a 275 RP I've went @1.1 at over 180 so I'm guessing something else was going on. Most likely the old I was using "X tire" and switched to "Z tire" and "Z tire" sucks because My 60ft wasn't as good, but the fact of the matter is that tire to tire suspension set ups need to change drastically on a high horsepower car. The 305 R is the unicorn tire for a 17, it's not gonna get any better.

The 3572 is the one I would go with, the M&H is a fall back if you only have a 9 inch rim or the 3572 gets sold out like it did before.
