I've had my GT PP almost a week, and still trying to feel things about. Something I've noticed..the transmission this thing is pretty clunky. I can feel everything engaging and disengaging, such as when I shift to 1st from neutral when a light turns green, or sometimes when going from 1st to 2nd, etc. Or if, say, I get up to maybe 45mph in a 45 zone and go from 4th to 6th there's a little bump. I understand this is a performance car and all and I do keep the radio low because I like the engine sounds, but is this normal? Or maybe I'm not being deliberate enough in my gear changes? I have the clutch fully depressed and I've kinda played around with where exactly I'm pushing the stick to make sure I'm not bumping into the guides (or whatever determines the precise location of the stick during movement).

Very common and considered normal. The thud is nothing to fear.

I've heard the clutch spring from Steeda helps with pedal feel. I've heard great reviews on a few of the aftermarket shifters. And I've noticed that shifting up a little higher in the rpm's makes the car a little happier. But yeah, I've experienced the same, haven't addressed it yet. I'm 2700mi into mine.

Steeda Tri-Ax shifter + 35lb clutch spring + transmission mount bushing = WIN

@PJR202 I experienced all the symptoms you described. The hang-ups from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. The "bump" noise when going into gear. Overall "sloppy" feeling of the stock shifter. They're all GONE. The stock drivetrain in this car leaves a LOT to be desired. Ford cut corners where they could to keep costs down, which is understandable, but that doesn't mean we have to like it or tolerate it. For well south of $500 (if you install yourself), you can have a totally different driving experience. Mileage has nothing to do with it. I just passed 12k miles and still had much dissatisfaction with the stock shifter.

3K miles here and same clunky transmission as described above. I haven't tried any solutions. I am going to wait until the first oil change to mess with the car.

"Many new Mustang owners have found that taking out the stock OE spring will give you somewhat similar results, but realistically the clutch becomes far too heavy especially if your Mustang is daily driven. Most owners fail to realize the prolonged effects of simply taking out your factory OE spring and not replacing it with another spring. By negating your factory clutch assist spring you will notice chatter/NVH from your clutch pedal. Your clutch pedal will never fully return to stock position without any assist spring, and over time your slave cylinder may begin leaking due to constant pressure on its seals from the clutch pedal not returning to the stock position. Avoid these problems in the future by installing our Steeda S550 Mustang Clutch Assist Spring 35 lb/in into your GT, EcoBoost or V6. - See more at: http://www.steeda.com/steeda-s550-m...b-in-15-16-all-555-7022/#sthash.tHE69084.dpuf "

Yeah I need to get the Steeda spring but I've been lazy. Good free mod though so far.

It gets better with time...both the tranny breaking in and you getting used to driving your car :headbang:

I was tempted to take mine in to the dealer, because getting into 1st and 2nd wasn't going so smooth, but I'd say once I hit 1000 miles things improved dramatically  And the last car I owned was identical to the current one in everything except color. I remember, though, having some of the same issues in my 2015 car when I first got it, too (although it had about 40 miles on it when I bought it [dealer stock], it had been out one too many fun test drives! ).

Mine was noisy also. Haven't noticed it lately. I changed over to full synthetic at 2500. You might give that a try. If you're going to keep your car stock that may be all you need.

Two things I didn't like was the clutch feel and the stock shifter. Switched the clutch spring at about 600 miles. Made a big difference . Could be perception but the pedal feel was definitely much better. I also installed an MGW and enjoy shifting much more. I've had a manual car since 2008 and my current setup has the best 'feel' to it.

I do keep the radio low because I like the engine sounds
Haven't turned my radio on once because I like the way it sounds also:ford:

not sure how pedal assist spring can make the "clunky" noise go away...
Is the replacement Steeda pedal spring an upgrade? and if so, in what way?
I kind of like that there is an assist spring. I can put the car in a gear and just let out the clutch with zero or minimal gas and not worry about bucking car or stalling out.
Sure~ It does make the clutch feel very mushy, but isn't that the point? I do understand that it's not for everyone.

Im spring less going on 20k miles...realistically NOT too heavy for a DD. And I have none of the side affects. You're intitled to your opinion though. To the OP, this tranny is typically a bit "clunky", so what your experiencing is normal. Remove your clutch assist spring, that will help.

Take out the spring, replace the fluid and install a MGW shifter.

I did all this and it was like driving another car.
