test drove 16 GT

I finally checked out a 2016 GT at the local dealer. It was a base auto, ruby red with over the top stripes. It was pretty nice. Maybe I don't need a premium after all. The seats were better than I thought they would be, steering wheel smaller and stereo better than mine. Auto shifted good, but did seem a tad slower than my manual with 3.73, but couldn't really get on it much since the dealer went with me and didn't mess with the sport mode.

Of course the price wasn't as low as I wanted being a small town dealership. They are asking 35k with the 750 discount and would only lower it to about 33.5 at x-plan pricing even though I told him I could probably get a-plan since I got it on my last car. They were going to give me about a grand more than I owe on my trade, which isn't bad, but I think its still overpriced and payments would be about 50 more than I wanted to spend. True car price is a tad over 32k for comparison. Heck for the price they are asking, I might be able to get a premium at that dealership by the coast, but its a long drive there. That dealership also has an orange base auto with 19" wheels and 3.55 for 30k which sounds like a pretty good deal too, just wish I could know if they would give me the same ballpark for my trade and such.

Worth a shot, but the other place in Florida gave me an online quote for my trade which was in an almost 4k range. Plus the car I was interested in wasn't discounted as much as I thought it would be. The local dealer said my car was nice and said they would make some calls to see it they could give me a little more for it, but haven't heard anything yet. IDK, not sure if its really worth it to upgrade at this point as I don't want my payments to go up and even if I could get them in the same ballpark, starting over on another long term. Don't know if I would be better off waiting a year or two? I know if I could hold out until the next model comes out in 19 or 20, I would most likely be in good shape with equity by then, but then again the auto with remote start sure would be nice, esp. in winter.

This right here. I've got all my options down to a T. I'm either approaching this two ways:

1. Let the dealers fight for the best deal
2. I have $36,000. Who can get me a Mustang GT Premium in LB with said options? Let them hunt it down.

Let the fighting begin. If they want your hard earned money, they'll work for it, especially if pre-approved.

btw, does anybody know if the greys are different between the 2014 and 2016? I think the new ones look a little darker. Mine is sterling grey metallic and the new ones are listed as magnetic metallic.

Since 05' I buy all my cars online, save ton of money and time. The best way to buy the sport cars is in suburban area, for truck and suv are inner city.

Yeah Koons is a lot closer, but still about a 7 hour drive so it would be a long day to drive out there. There is also another place around that area that is advertising a premium for almost 8k off, but sounds too good to be true and that one would still be pushing my budget since it stickers for over 41k. The only reason I was considering the FL dealer was they have free shipping and say they will give extra for your trade, but like I said there OTD prices are higher than Koons. Just wish I could find a closer place, although I have yet to try the nearby city which has a few cars with decent prices, but not the exact options and colors I want.

Medsport, I have an f-150 in sterling grey and an escape in magnetic. When they are next to each other, the magnetic looks a tad greener to me. Both are really nice greys but when next to each other, I think the sterling is much nicer. But either one on its own is still really nice imho. I wish they offered sterling on the 16's. I would have ordered that if they had it.

Ok, after an extensive search, I think I found the cheapest premium cars with most of the options I want. I located a place that has a couple magnetic prem autos with the 19" wheels. One at 33.7k has nice looking saddle seats and the other is basically the same, but has black seats, enhanced security and park assist for just over 34k. Not sure what the park assist does since the sticker says both have the rear camera. About the only thing I may want different is the foundry wheels and maybe another color like guard or silver, but would like to see them in person first. Problem is the dealer is near the coast and about a 7 hour drive and won't give me a quote on my trade until they see it. I would hate to drive all that way and get a surprise or financing being more than I thought or something.

A couple other variables are my loan payment on my current car was due yesterday and my registration is due also since I just had my birthday. I had been putting off paying for those in case I decided to buy a car this week. What do you guys think, should I take a road trip and check them out or keep looking for awhile in the hopes prices come down more or I can find a premium without any extras or maybe the foundry wheels which should be a little cheaper? I did notice a place down in Florida has 0% interest on their remaining 2015's which would save quite a bit in payments, but then again, they are too far away and would rather get a 16. Hold onto your current Mustang. Now isn't the time to buy a sports car. You just have to be patient. But if not, go for it. I wouldn't worry about wheel options too much, you can always put a nice aftermarket set on and sell your originals down the road.

Yeah its not fun having a car you owe on and having to factor that in to your deal. Maybe sell your Mustang privately?

Best bet is to call them up too. I found a couple base GT's under $30k, but then you call them up and they say they are $32k+ tax. Due to some option bull crap that the dealership puts on ALL their vehicles STANDARD. Ex: Special wax, Xpel door guard, wheel locks, and a bunch of other BS that is up-charged.

I decided to wait until the end of the year for my 16.

Yeah, I'm wondering if summer or fall will be better for lower interest rates and discounts? Although some of the bigger dealerships (mostly east coast, Florida and Texas) are showing big discounts now, it sounds like they do tack on extra fees like delivery, doc, ext. to their posted prices. Plus selection will be depleted for the 16's by end of summer I would think. As far as trade, I owe around 20k and blue book value says anywhere from 19-23 so I could be alright, but each place my offer a different amount. The local dealer did offer 21 so that's not bad, but they are asking too much for their base mustang. I know the smart thing would be to hold out another 4 years until its paid off, but don't think I'll ever make it since I want the new model now. I just can't decide if its better to get a base auto with a couple options since they have the best deals to keep payments low or pony up for the premium-afterall it would only be about 50-60 more a month.

How many miles are on your GT and mileage?

You don't NEED it now. Enjoy what you have and get out of the hype of the 15+.

I personally never go by payments. I pay for my cars in cash. Different strokes for different folks.

I vote to wait. That is what I am going to do unless I can find a great deal I can't pass up.
