Ford/GM 10-speed Automatic Transmission

I assume that this is the 10 speed transmission that is developed with FORD?

The only reason I would want the 10 speed in the MPG (spare me the "I bought a Muscle Car BS", I know what I bought). I wonder if it will be a suprice for MY 2017 on the STang or will they wait it out until 2018.

Agreed and obviously and that's why I'm waiting..the 10 speed. The whole you bought a muscle car argument is so old and tired. Sorry I want the best of both worlds which some companies are offering...power and MPG.

It's just kinda shocking that:

1. It's going to be in their top model and later this year (ahead of Ford)
2. They basically just threw down again and said "Hey we're offering either tranny option in our top model unlike Ford" and forcing people into a manual.

I mean think about it. Ford basically has kinda thumbed their noses at the auto group with the Mustang. No PP option in the auto. No GT350 with an auto.

It's the same one from the Raptor, so yes, it's the joint developed 10 speed. GM shitheads are trying to claim it's ALL GM that did it and completely neglecting to mention Ford's involvement. Some articles are pointing it out, but naturally the fanatics over at Camaro6 are mostly ignoring that.

I expect this in the 2018 MY Mustang along with the GT500 or whatever they call the next highest Mustang.

Updated Coyote, 10 speed auto, more aluminum, Mach 1/ GT500, etc

Very much my thoughts, too.

Ford wouldn't waste resources to calibrate the 10-speed to the current Coyote only to have to do it again for the '18MY with, hopefully, an updated Coyote

That auto is an engineering win.
Someone needs to check w vette guys and fibd out max totque before it breaks.
Drove one and was very impressed.

The Z06 trans overheats after 1 lap at Road America, I am not impressed with it at all.

The 10 speed is more than more MPGs. It will GREATLY improve acceleration because it can go through more gear ratios quickly and they're much closer together.

That's the main reason the SS with 8 speed only having 20hp more than the 5.0 is a bit quicker 0-60 and 1/4 mile.

And to be fair Mustang is MUCH MUCH more loyal to it's history/heritage than Chevy. Shelbys have always only been manual trans. It's more of a heritage thing than thumbing their nose- coming from an auto owner here too. But I get why. I dont think a high revving Voodoo with an auto would be near as much fun as manual since the auto as is doesn't come near redline and wants to shift way too early.

Shelbys have always only been manual trans.

Since the 07 GT500...you're right.

However in the classic era, starting with the 66 GT350H and then from there on forwards the GT350 and GT500 were both available with a C4/C6 automatic transmission.

The only Shelby's that were manual only were the 65/66 GT350 (non Hertz cars) and the 07+ GT500 and the current GT350.

Oh and folks...

The new 10 speed has 6 "power gears", 7 is a 1:1 and then it's on to triple overdrives.

You're forgetting the auto's have paddle shifters..they can redline if they want.

They really need to have both options...these days autos deliver much better acceleration and MPG then before and many of us live in areas where having a manual on a DD is a nightmare in traffic/commuting.

There is a reason track only cars dont come auto. If you dont like it, dont buy it. You dont need a track purposed car if you want an auto. Manual is king for track cars. If chevy wants to muddy their track performance cars wth autos thats their choice.
