Hi all

Has anyone bought (or planning to buy) an extended warranty ?

Dealer quoting £220 for 4 year and £520 for 5 year. This is an extension of Ford's original 3 year warranty, not a third party one.

Doesn't sound too bad to me, especially if people are planning on keeping the car for a while.

Any thoughts ? Thanks

The new price list (29th Feb) shows the prices are £230 & £540 so he is knocking a few quid off for you. It does sound good value, and i am thinking about taking this up as well as the service package as well - £590 for 3 services is less than I pay for my C5 services (but that only needs a service every 24 months/20K miles so overall it is a little cheaper)

Do these need to be bought on day 1 or something we can add later? I'll be on PCP but if I keep the car past 3 years (very likely) then adding the extension would be good. Same with servicing. I tend not to see a 3rd service as car is usually traded in by that point.

If the 5 year warranty extension is transferable to new owner if you were to sell it, i think its excellent value at £500.

Anyone know if its transferable?

Been stung with the "service package" before (with BMW dealer). Found out that for the "service" they hadn't even opened the bonnet. Plus when you realise main-dealer work and service are lousy, you're forced to return as you've already paid.

It stays with the car itself, as for the services.

Is it tied to a specific dealer? My nearest dealer is 10 miles away whereas I'm buying from one 150 miles away (don't get me started but basically I went to a dealer on the South Coast as he had a better track record on ordering Mustangs early last year)
So would I buy this with the car and 'transfer' it or go to my local dealer after I've bought it?

Only official mustang dealers have the mechanics trained to service them, I would think your tied to them for the servicing package.

The extended Warranty plans (Ford Protect Classic) can be purchased any time up until the vehicles first date of registration

The Service plan (Ford Protect Premium) can be purchased any time before the first service

So basically buy the warranty with the car or don't get it.

At least I will have time to decide on the service plan.

Yes I think overall £500 for an extra 2 years cover has to be worth it. If I do sell the car before then it will hopefully add a bit of value as well. I have asked my dealer to add it on.

I find this a strange piece if text as not many of us have much opportunity to have our Mustang prior to it being registered.

I took delivery of my Mustang early December and so the extended warranty was not available at the time of purchase and registration but it was discussed. My dealer is now asking Ford if I can still take it up.

I'm wondering if its any time up to the first anniversary of its registration. A car doesn't have a first date of registration; it only has one date of registration.

Well my dealer is asking Ford so I will let everyone know.

One think I did have was that the warranty and service plan are transferrable to a new owner but would I recover the outlay from an insurance claim in the case of a total loss (possibly a current topic on the board)? It's just a thought as I do intend to take up these plans as the warranty especially will improve saleability (if not actual value) if I decide to change muscle cars at 3 years.
