Nope. I was sick as a dog last week and didn't do anything until 2 days ago.

I will crack open the box in the next day or 2 and start messing with it. See these pictures, I swear, just makes me smile that I will be able to take ones like this in the future.

What he said. Set the camera into manual mode and open up the aperture all the way(f1.8 for your 50mm) then focus on small objects just lying around. Be amazed that everything in front of and behind the subject is blurred causing the subject itself to really pop. You'll be taking neat photos of random crap and will have a ton of fun.
