Not being able to "get good 60ft times" is utterly irrelevant in discussions comparing the GT350, 1LE, and similarly intended (i.e. road course) cars. Hardly any different than saying if a car can't pull big cornering g's that it isn't a good drag race car.

If "those magazine editors" are the same people time after time, you at least have that for consistency. If they aren't capable of running times comparable to Randy P's in one car, it's still a reasonable conclusion that they'll be about the same (percentage?) amount 'off' of his times in a different car. For people who don't drive such a wide variety of cars (like you or me), I would expect poorer correlation when jumping around among a variety of cars.

I've already given you the point on RFT's, having driven a C7 so equipped for exactly one lap on a real road course as a little real-world experience. Inside half a lap it was evident that these weren't run-of-the-mill sedan RFT's.

im aware whats irrelevant. The point was they are more sticky then one would think when talking runflats. The 60ft shows that. Nothing more.

Every car likes to be handled different. Doesnt mean they weren't able to tame one car more then another. Some cars are just easier to drive, which you definitely are aware of. I cant agree that it translates that they will be off by an X amount percentage.

I understand where you're coming from too, I just think the claimed times are going to heavily depend on the track. That's why I don't like to say, "they said XYZ seconds faster" as a blanket. If they don't come out and say it's THIS much faster at THIS track in our back to back testing, it's just marketing. Ford said the GT350 ties the Z51 at Grattan, and I'm sure that's true. Now, GM is saying that the new 1LE is 3 seconds faster than the old 1LE at Willow Springs if I'm remembering correctly. I can't wait to see how that pans out.

The streets of willow have some long enough straights it should have clearly beat it with its acceleration. It does have some nice turns though. I still cant help but think the 5 gen 1le still handles better. You're right. Its probably just marketing. Dont misunderstand i think the new camaro does a really good job at the base 1ss price point with no mrc etc. I just find it to be a fail in the aspect based off what GM said.

Itll be interesting to see how the 1le does, i agree.

Impressive - I'll give it that much. Though run-flats - at least the MPSS ZP's - are better than forum opinions give them credit for being.

Not being the clear victor in either case is at least a let-down.

Norm
Yes, it's clear from all the performance testing that these RFT's aren't bad.

Will be interesting to see what some sticky, summer tires in a more favourable stagger will produce...

Unfortunately, that's not the way what you said about 60ft times reads, as that was nothing more than criticism of the magazine editors. Skills at drag racing do not correlate very well at all to skills at road course driving.

I couldnt careless what those magazine editors could do. They are not professional drivers. They cant even get good 60ft times.

I think that among cars of generally similar size/power/weight/weight distribution/etc. that the correlation won't be bad at all. Now if the pro and the editor jumped straight from a GT350 or a 1LE into a 1966 Porsche 911 (or perhaps worse, into a swing-axle Corvair with enough added power to make things interesting) any estimate - percentage-based or otherwise - would fail. Perhaps miserably. But the GT350 vs 1LE comparison under discussion isn't like either of those silly comparisons.

I sure did. Whoops. I didnt put my thoughts into words very well at all or expand on my thoughts on the tires. Thats embarrassing. i guess thats what i get for trying to do too many things at once. I do know that 60ft times dont go hand in hand with road courses.

You could assume the editors are good enough drivers to be able to do that. I dont think most of them are good enough to do that well. Ill agree to disagree there.

Don't feel bad. Back when I had a day job, it included reviewing and commenting on . . . well, instead of trying to explain exactly what it was, let's just call it technical writing.

I think they're good enough to be consistent at their skill level as opposed to scattering measurements all over the map, and consistently 'off' the times/g's of a true pro. Maybe if their day jobs didn't include the writing part and the office time, they'd be better out on the test track.

Says the camaro 5/6 poster.....You might want to learn what his background and make of cars is that he has owned...Just saying...Carry on.
That is correct. You have brought this up many times, but to what end? I am a member of multiple car forums, that is a good thing and together with my post history shows an open minded car guy. So again, who gives a crap?

Because.....I want to. Guess you give a crap since you respond and my comments bother you.

I only post on Ford/Mustang sites but that's just me. I don't feel the need to share my expertise and love for my Fords on non Ford centric sites.

Plus you stated inaccurate facts about mustang_guy, hence me calling you a Chevy fanboy.

You have a great weekend. Time to enjoy my amazing S550.

Just wondering,

From the outside view, how do you tell a V6 vs V8 Camaro 1LE? Also down the road a I4?
