For those of you with Motor Trend on Demand...there is a new H2H...

http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=438207&page=6

The information and stats start on page 6...

I won't post spoilers for those interested, but they tested a Camaro SS against a BMW M4...

All I will say is that the Camaro performed very well and if the 2017 1LE is as good as Al O is saying it is (including how much faster/better it is compared to the standard 2016 Camaro) we will be in for a real treat when the GT350 and 1LE finally square off.

It's a great time to be an automotive enthusiast!

Only on a race track would that have mattered. And even then it depends on the driver's skill. Admittedly the GT500 would be harder to tame.

But street performance isnt even close, the 4000lbs ZL1 wasnt a match for the 38xxlbs GT500. I wonder how much faster a GT500 would have been with a 6R80?
Some day I might try to run some acceleration simulations to try to find out what a 6R80 would be worth.

But for now, I can tell you that street acceleration performance has nothing on taking corners at 100 mph and 1.2g with the tires singing. And getting to do it again less than 2 minutes later.

It went slower then the 5 gen 1LE. Thats a failure. Its even a bigger failure when GM said it was faster then the 5th gen.

Well..they didn't make it with 6R80...so your point is moot. GT500 had major problems lapping a track considering all the HP under the hood. It didn't perform well at Lightning Lap that year either due to terrible brakes, handling and couldn't put the power to the ground. The only place it was a sure winner was the 1/4 mile.

Trust me...I was disappointed because that car just looked and sounded brutal! and i love brutality

Several things:

- The GT350 isn't the GT350R

- as far as I know, the 2014 Z28 set its time in the wet

- different days, drivers, and conditions

This is the reason I don't pay any attention to ring times.

A failure? How so? It was 2 tenths behind an M4 within same day testing...and 3 tenths behind a 5th 1LE on different day testing. With RFT's...I might add. That's very impressive IMHO.

The gt500 isn't a track focused car, it may have done some decent lap times on various tracks, but the track car of the late model s197 Era is the boss 302 (yes it wasnt as fast as the gt500, but everything about the car was better for doing laps on a road course). No shit they didn't use an auto on the gt500. Had they used that transmission the car would bring even more attention. Like an auto hellcat being much faster than a manual one. The auto in a 5.0 with either a blower or turbos is a deadly combo.

Once the gt350 hype dies down and they sell for retail it would be a good comparison the the 1LE, which I bet will be priced pretty close.

That's what happened with the stingray when it was compared to the gt350. The gt350 had better tires than the vette running RFTs. Stingray was still clocking faster lap times. I know they aren't in the same league of cars, and I would definitely take a gt350 over a stingray.
