SJB issues were blown out of all proportion by a few S197 owners who had dodgy light setups on their SVA conversion, because there was no backup from Ford or a way of sorting it cheaply for them. I had two S197's both with conversions over the course of 4 years and not one of them suffered from SJB issues, despite other owners proclaiming that LPG, new head unit, fuse tapping for cameras etc would blow my car up. All of which I carried out on my V6 and then later on my GT500 (except for the LPG conversion).

I can sympathise with people who had SJB issues but there is a big difference between a dodgy light upgrade which is drawing a lot more power than the SJB is used to seeing than a dashcam running off electric mirrors. I am quite happy to have it running and am happy to risk it though just incase ;)


Using fuse taps is an approved way of fitting cameras by many professional camera fitting companies, especially over in the States, these guys have been fitting cameras of 1000's of CAN-BUS cars for years, so if there was even the tiny possibility of it blowing a SJB they would not be doing it, especially in litigation central (USA).

Suit yourself. If you're happy with fuse taps, then go for it. The reason so many 'professional' companies do it is because it's quicker and therefore more profitable for them.

Just trying to save people bother further down the line (and SJB issues aren't always immediately apparent).

Having scratch built looms for cars I know what I'd rather do. But each to their own.

Ive tried all manner of combinations tonight, yellow in 1 red in 15 and 16. In them combos camera stays on all the time,
I've even tried changing the red and yellow around.

the next thing to check is..... does anyone have a different brand dashcam?

Over on the Australia forum, someone has got the Blackview cam working using the same fuse taps (same fuses as in the original US DIY thread).

I'm sure I measured constant power with my multimeter at the time as well, so I'm thinking it's probably something to do with the Thinkware dashcam design. There's a built in 'battery drain protection' which is a good feature, but maybe this just isn't compatible with our Mustangs?

Tried the 'firmware upgrade' the other day, but made no difference.

Seems drastic, but I think my next step is going to be to ditch the Thinkware and buy the Blackview. I'm not overly impressed with the Thinkware anyway. The picture is great but there are other bugs such as the 'not always turning on' problem and the fact that its impossible to turn off the alerts, which sound all the time if it thinks you're in a "mobile speed cam zone".

All my alerts are off, no issues there. I just wish you could turn the volume down on the "continuous recording starts", "gps connected", etc
I'm going to shift my earth to the bodywork rather than above the accelerator, see if that fixes anything

Just can't turn mine off. No matter how many times you select the 'off' options, it just won't have it!

So you don't tip off the guys at your dealership that they're on camera!

Negative, next port of call is going to engine bay fuse box I think. I've moved the earth from above the accelerator to the bolts above the fuse box directly attached to the bodywork. That seems to have fixed the not turning back on problem after only being stopped for a few minutes.
