Original? Not hardly. Plymouth's Barracuda beat them both to market, just that the Mustang made the bigger splash and managed to generate the 'pony' part of the segment name. Chevy's Corvair - already going into its 2nd generation about that time - probably had similar intent as 'inexpensive fun/sporty transportation', but was just too different and under a cloud of suspicion from people who didn't know how to drive it.

Ford Falcon pre-dated the Barracuda. It's not just the small car, it's also the styling.

The Barracuda was on the market for 2 WEEKS when the Mustang debuted. In the greater scheme of things that is a tie. It never sold well.

The "unsafe at any speed" Corvair was not certainly not a Pony car. You could get it in a station wagon! GM introduced the Camaro 2.5 years after the Mustang.

Anyone trying to argue the Mustang is not the "original" Pony car is smoking it.

Back in the 60's Ford was a joke on the streets around Detroit. GM ruled the streets and any teenager knew it. Finally Ford had to rely on Tasca Ford to come up with the 428 cobra jet. Us old guys still remember the mustang was just a falcon. A 289 hi po mustang would never show up on Woodward ave back in 1966. For us old guys that's hard to forget. Just a blast from the past. I like them both and have owned a ton. I find them fun to own and when I get bored I change brand. Loyal to American muscle only.
Over the years Ford, Chevy and Dodge have all won their fair share of fastest car on the street. I might point out that while Tasca (who used Ford parts to modify a 428 Police Interceptor engine) was unquestionably the inspiration for the 428CJ... the production engine-variant that Ford manufactured had over 30 improvements that boosted performance from 335 to 400HP plus. It is a good story. When I had my Super Snake produced I shipped it to Tasca because i always respected their commitment to racing Fords.

You may have owned many brands of muscle cars over the years, even some fords, you state that in about every 25th post, but 90% of your posts, you are here ( Mustang forum) Pushing the chevy's hard and knocking the Mustang.
Not sure why or if it even makes a difference, but really if the Camaro is what you want, go buy it. Join a Camaro forum and enjoy, no shame in that, is there?
Am I missing something? Your need to prove the Camaro superior or what?

I need to join Camaro, Vette, Viper, Mazda, Subaru, and Nissan forums. I have so much to tell them about why I'd rather own a GT350 than all their cars. I have a busy day ahead of me.

Ford is cracking me up, i was reading the Limp Mode thread for the gt350 and it seems couple of guys had problems with their base gt350's at the track after 4 to 5 sessions. The car goes into the limp mode due to fluids being so warm! The owner calls Ford and tells about the problem, Ford's response Sir you have a base gt350 and it does not have the track package, you should not be tracking that car! Seriously!!!! I thought the base gt350 have similar cooling to a gt with pp at least! If thats the case, we should change this thread title to gt350tp vs 1le!

If a base gt350 is neither a drag or a track car then please someone explain what it is? I was planning on trading my gtpp for a base gt350 but after seeing Ford's response i m pretty disappointed!

They have more in place for cooling than a GTPP, but they also turn 1300RPM more and make 90 more horsepower. They also have more grip and better braking. So, they can sustain higher speeds for longer.

That part made me chuckle. They where retarded then, just like they are retarded now.
Thats Ok...us old guys remember things the way we imagined them back in the day. We all drove the fastest cars, had the hottest girl friends and drank the most beer.
