used c6 corvette vs new base GT

At least in my area, the prices of used c6 corvettes certainly make me look twice. Two examples 2006 with 15k miles $27k, and a 2007 with 7k miles for $30k. Big depreciation is gone, you could probably drive a c6 for a few years and resell it for virtually the same price. The new c7 has really made the c6 look dated in my eyes though. Does the c6 look outdated to anyone else with the c7?

I had the same decision to make, the reason i choose the s550 is because they just came out and were new. I still love the c6 too, think they still look killer. But i wouldnt fit in with the corvette crowd anyway.

A 10 year old car Vs a new car?!?!!?!? wow you must replay love the C6, I could see if a C7 but I would much rather have a new Mustang. The C6 could have had the piss beat out of it and the Mustang you will be the first Owner.

I kind of agree. Ive read the corvette forums a little, and there seems to be quite a bit of negativity towards other cars on that forum. Don't think it would be a place I enjoyed hanging around much as I enjoy all types of cars, no matter what I own.

I don't really think 7k miles over 9 years is too big of a deal. (800 miles a year). But I certainly would not want to spend that kind of money on a used car with high mileage you are right. I usually never have luck finding a used car I am happy with. Wouldn't look at one over 20k miles and would prefer if the car didn't have multiple owners.

I agree it's a lot of performance for the money. You should shop around, drive some and see what you think. Report back to us!

I'm not sure about dated, but the C6 always looked very bland and boring to me. The C7 was a terrific change and improvement. The Corvette hasn't had such great styling since the C3.

IMO the Corvette has always been a low sexy car. It offers more performance than a GT. Only down side is it'll be out of warranty. Most of those cars were purchased by sliver haired cruisers so the majority of them should be pampered low mile cars. I tried to talk my wife into a Vette. She wanted to wait for the C7 even though a used C6 was less than our new stang..:shrug:Hard to go wrong with either. Both are American classics!

Friday night, I was at the gas station...I walk back out to my car from inside the little store, and this mid-20's lady asks me how I like my car, says she wants one, etc. and then says that her bf/husband/whatever he was, had a corvette or something....and looks over at him as he's walking toward us, brings him into the conversation, he looks at my car, goes "Yeah, the new Camaro is nice, and I like Corvettes, so, I really think your car is ugly and stupid, no offense."

I said, "Oh, right, you know, I almost bought a 2007 Vette a couple years ago, I really like them" this is true, for the record...with that said, I still prefer a Mustang...he then went on to tell me about all the Corvettes his dad had, they had 1,000 horsepower, could do zero to 200 in four seconds, etc. etc. etc.

He was driving a Honda Civic...which had clear packing tape holding the LH mirror in place.

I've seen more of this type of blind hatred behavior from the GM crowd - snobbery, etc. than I see with the Mustang guys...

You didn't call his rust bucket junk? I could understand his opinion but to blindly call your car ugly and "stupid"?

I was always a Corvette fan, I've had a 90, 92, 99FRC, and have driven many more. My dad's current car is a 2011 Vette (manual, coupe, not a Z51) and while I do really like the car and I've driven it quite a bit I also chose a S550 over buying a used C6. The Vette is definitely faster in a straight line and you can feel the combination of lighter weight and more torque when driving on the street. What I've noticed though after driving my S550 and the C6 back-to-back is that the Vette actually kind of feels bigger and "loose." The shifter in the C6 feels longer and sloppier, the steering too. Somehow the Mustang actually feels like you're driving a smaller and tighter car. Beyond that I find the S550 has a more refined interior and I like being in it more.

If you are going to void the warranty on your brand new mustang gt with modes, then it seems to be feasable to buy a used corvette with the ls3 or ls7 (zo6) engine. Ls3 is proven to be reliable and good with modes, ls7 on the other hand had issues and i wouldn't touch that engine just leave it stock!

For performance and a huge grin on the face but some ohh shit hell moments i would totally suggest a corvette. The c6 corvette is a lightweight rocket and an amazing piece of machine!

I almost got a 2012 zo6 myself but i needed a performance DD which can rock with enough road clearence for snow and bumps!

I think the C6 is a better looking [exterior] design than the C7. I like the lines on the C7, there's just some goofy finishing touches that aren't present on the C6.

Well, I guess I need to qualify: specifically the C6 GS and later models with the Z06 sized fenders/wheels/tires/brakes. Seriously, I wouldn't even consider a non-wide body C6, it makes a HUGE difference in the looks.

Then with the wide body cars you get the LS3 which is an intake/tune/LTs away from 475-480HP, and H/C away from whatever you'd like (550-ish for a mild/moderate build). Plus all the non-Z06 cars get a removable roof which is fun.

Love Corvettes, but loving the Mustang just as much, and as a 2+2 (vs. a 2+0 ) I'm getting much more use out of it.

(For the record I had 4 Corvettes including a Z06 I picked up at the factory/NCM).

A 3LT/4LT C6 Grand Sport would be low 40s and a very, very nice car. Especially if it has the Alcantara option and magnetic ride. If you were looking to do some serious modding, I'd go with the Mustang. Otherwise it'd be tough to not take the Vette.

i would go with the vette. the GT will never overcome its weight disadvantage vs a corvette.
