So this last weekend I took my 2015 GT to Laguna Seca, for a Hooked on Driving track day. I am 58 years young, and have been taking driving schools and participating in track days since my early 20's.
This was my first track event in my GT, and it was also my first event in the rain!
In the past I have run every type of car from open wheel formula cars, and my Alfa GTV-6 and GTV (with the Alfa club track days in the 80's and 90's) to The new Corvette last year. Needless to say I was a little apprehensive with the Mustang's toque and a slick race track.
The day was way better than I had hoped The track was wet at first and dried out though the day. We had six sessions available to us. I ran only five because I felt a little tired at the end of the day.
The GT with the performance package and my lowering springs + cat back exhaust made the car near perfect. In the morning when the track was very wet, I did tiptoe through most of the corners. I had the car set on Sport + and with the traction control ON! The car would step exiting some corners, but it was nothing I could not correct with a little opposite lock.
I also ran the day with the oil temp on my display, the air temp was in the mid 50's all day. And with Laguna's long front straight (my top speed at the end of the straight was 105 MPH) the oil temp never was in the yellow. It stayed in the high end of the green.
There was a wide variety of cars at the track in my group (intermediate). The only cars that let pass me were a Subaru STI, an AMG twin turbo wagon, and a Carrera 4 Porsche. Every thing else I was able to race with. In fact I had a nice last season race with a BMW M4.
My track MPG was 6! and 25 on the way back to Oxnard (a 4 1/2 hour drive)
All in all the car held up very well. the brakes smelled hot, but did not fade. And the coolant and oil stayed cool.

Awesome pics. I can't wait to hit Mid -Ohio in mine. Probably COTA eventually too.

surprised @ 105 top speed at the end of the front straight. I have never driven at there for real, but from the video games of the world, 105 seems low.

again. I know nothing. Just a general question.

I would agree if I had not been on this track more times than I can count.
The front straight has a bridge that you go under it's about halfway down the front straight then it has a slight kink to the left in a downhill slope to the second turn to the left, so the secret is you achieve your TopSpeed going under the bridge then hold your speed and go through the left-hand Kink and go downhill to the second corner to the left, while holding the same speed you achieved under the bridge. It may sound easy but it's not as you crest the hill ( all you see is sky) your normal inclination is to let up on the Excelerator but you try and tell yourself no hold the same speed . It's also worth mentioning that there is a tight hairpin that leads you to the front straight it's the slowest corner on the track second gear and probably about 40 MPH.

There are so many more variables in real world. Wind, heat, humidity, tire temperature, tire pressure, and the fact you can't press reset when you crash because you missed your braking points. Handling is not realistic in games.

I would be shitless the first time trying to around the corkscrew in real life.
The G-force would probably make me want to puke.

Great pictures, Ron. I used to go to Laguna Seca every year for the Motorcycle Superbike races. That is an awesome track and i have always wanted to run on it. You are right about that kink past the bridge. A lot of the bikes would lift the front tire while cresting it. Turn 2a is a killer too.

Totally agree, you cannot equate video games to real life. Consequences in a video game of missing it and crashing are nil. They are very present and harsh in real life... :)

Thanks for sharing, OP! I'd love to track my car at Laguna Seca, but as I live on the opposite side of the country, it's probably not likely to happen any time soon... I tracked at Roebling Road in GA last year, and will be going to Atlanta Motorsports Park this spring, though, so there's still plenty of tracks worth driving on this coast. After AMP, I'd really like to tackle Road Atlanta. But I digress...

I always love reading other peoples' impressions after tracking their S550s. I had a great time last year on my first time out with the car, and I felt like the handling was great--it was very predictable (my car had Sportlines and BMR sway bars at the time).

Great photos. I was just at Sebring in FL last weekend doing a DE.
Did you Experience the hood wave/wobble at over 80 mph. I hit 120 and the hood was moving enough to be distracting.I have the same car. Magnetic PP with recaros.
