So "initial quality" is more important than long term dependability?? LOL. And since when are we only talking about 2015 models?? I also find it comical when forum members put down forum-based info. Contradict much, or do you think you are the only source of valid comments/shared experiences in a forum?? I'll just let you keep believing Jeep's are reliable and Honda's are shit. Ignorance is bliss and you are one very happy fella. LMAO.
If a car has significant problems in the first 90 days of ownership, what does that say about long-term dependability? Common sense tells you that the problems don't just "disappear" after 90 days; instead owners forget about the specific issues that they've experienced when you ask them 5 years later.

The initial quality study is driven by warranty based data. Meaning issues that are well documented by dealers, not just concerns perceived by the consumer. The Dependability Survey asks people about the issues they've had over 5 years of ownership. Considering most people can't remember what they've had for breakfast that day and have no technical background, the long term data is highly questionable, and certainly not something that should be considered accurate. Consumer Reports has the same issue, their "Reliability Study" is a joke.

"Forum based" information is also of questionable credibility. As soon as one person posts a concern they've experienced, everyone else begins to assume they have the same issue. In other words, unless you're discussing a particular failure of a component, things tend to get blown out of proportion, mostly because everything else is open to perception and interpretation.

Every Civic and Accord struggling to get out of its own way on the freeway on ramp disagrees with you.

If you think of a car as an appliance like a refrigerator and don't mind throwing away extra money they are ok. But if you want a fun car or want good value for your money - not the best choice - or even a good choice.
Oh please this isn't 1980. Your statement is completely ridiculous. They are plenty quick for normal driving or even sporty driving, especially the V6 Accords, which are faster or just as fast as Mustang GT's were prior to 2011. Obviously base civics are not exactly fast, but plenty for normal driving. Are you one of those A-holes who drives around like Ricky Bobby/Billy Badass out on the street with your foot to the floor 100% of the time, that has to blow by everyone that is just driving normally?

I've been driving muscle/sports cars for 20+ years, many of which were highly modified, including a H/C/I/Full exhaust Z06, and I've taken my GF's 4cyl Accord sport on several trips to NJ/PA and I can tell you it moves surprisingly well, and also handles really good too. It was honestly FUN to drive, all while being nice and comfy and getting great gas mileage.

With regard to the appliance comment, gee I haven't heard that one before. Yawn.

Obviously not much since the statistics are so much different for long term reliability. It's likely just that certain car buyers are more finicky about minor things, because they were expecting absolute perfection when they first buy a car.

I don't agree with that, I don't think most people forget about car problems. That's usually something people remember. And certainly so if it's anything at all significant.

The initial quality study is driven by warranty based data. Meaning issues that are well documented by dealers, not just concerns perceived by the consumer. The Dependability Survey asks people about the issues they've had over 5 years of ownership. Let's face it, you have to take pretty much ALL sources of info with a grain of salt. That's why I don't just consider one, but all of them to base my viewpoint on.

Again, if you want to sit here and preach that Jeeps are reliable and Honda's are not, I'm just going to continue to laugh at you. But hey, to each their own.

Honda didn't turn the big 3 on their ear in the 80s by building a bad car. In fact, Honda made them go back to school and learn how to build in more quality so the big 3 could try and compete. I remember the days when European/Japanese cars had odometers designed to roll over at 999,999 whereas American cars had 99,999.

I had a 2007 civic that needed the following replaced(under warranty thank god) under 50k miles:

complete rack and pinion
blower motor
compressor
condenser
power steering pump
control arms in rear because the damn things were notorious for eating tires due to early design

Sorry but in my experience it was not very reliable.

Pretty much all non force inducted 4 cylinders have struggle. Fail to see your point. They are for economy, clearly. I already said im not a fan of the quality of everything around the engine. That includes, ac, alternator, electronics and things of that type of nature. I wouldn't by anymore hondas. I was done with them after the integra died. You can sleep easy tonight man.
I'm fine if you want to buy a Honda. I was just making a statement that I'm not a big fan of EVERY Honda motor. One point I'm trying to make is that if we are only talking engine longevity there are plenty of American engines that last virtually forever as well. I know there are many Ford 302s pulled apart after 200k miles and the cross hatching was still visible on the cylinder bores, for example.

Hey, I get it, you love Honda. OK, okay, oooohhhhkaaaayyyy. Just realize that from my point of view you are very biased towards Honda and I'm not alone. If you really think it's ridiculous that someone would say there are many boring, under-powered Hondas out there on the roads ... well then I can't help you.

I wouldn't say I love Honda, but I appreciate Honda. Out of at least a dozen vehicles that I have owned, only ONE has been a Honda (2009 Accord EX-L V6 coupe). In the time that I owned it, it was flawless and a fantastic all around every day car. The build quality was great and I had zero problems. Same thing with my GF's 2015 Accord Sport...she has about 30k miles on it so far and zero problems, great build quality.

I've also owned two Toyota's (A Celica and a Supra) and they were both fantastic as well.

Also owned a Nissan 300ZX...it was ok, but had problems.

But mostly, I've owned Good ole V8 American vehicles:
-72 Chevelle SS
-72 Chevy Stepside pickup
-94 Mustang GT
-94 Trans Am LT1
-99 Trans AM WS6 (LS1)
-01 Corvette Z06
-2012 Mustang GT

I like MANY vehicles in all different categories and classes. Anything from muscle cars to luxury cars to hot hatches to pickups to exotics...One of my favorite cars is a Pagani Zonda R (And I have a $500 model of one for the record.. :)

I'm just more of the type of person who prefers to appreciate everything for what it is. I'm not really a fan boy or someone who is biased and likes to put things down because of that.

With that said fords been in lemans and many other forms of racing. They are returning to lemans you probably know. However that isnt exactly a good argument for either side.

What's awesome about this thread. Is the EB owner that posted this silly video showing a very poorly driven V8 getting beat by a 4 banger. Has now ran out and traded his 4 banger for a 5.0.

I'll always think of Cosworth as being equivalent to Ford.

Domination.

I will be inheriting a 2008 F150 Supercrew 4x4 5.4L w/60k miles, and being mostly unfamiliar with the truck I was looking up some reviews, and came across a comment from a review on Edmunds & immediately thought I gotta share this in that Honda thread:

I traded in a Honda Civic that I was driving as a commuter car ----- couldnt stand it. I felt like i was wearing panties or something
LMAO.

I remember when the first Hondas hit the US around 1976. Super small little car with a 2 cylinder motorcycle engine in it. Looked like a toy. It's amazing how far some of these car companies have come over the years.
And Hyundai is doing the same thing the last ten years. And soon so will the Chinese automakers.
