Just make sure you get a reputable installer for anything though. As most of the time cheap jobs end up being poorly done, as with tinting.

Not trying to derail this thread but if someone did the opti coat (which looks incredible) could or would this create a problem later if you wanted to wrap the car?

Think of opti-coat as an additional clear coat. No point opti-coating vinyl. So if you want to do both, you should opti-coat first and then apply vinyl.

It would not create a problem if you decide to opti-coat and then wrap your car further down the line.

Interesting... I raised a similar question with one of the installer and whilst opticoat is like an additional clear coat, it is an EXTREMELY SLIPPERY one. Thus I was advised to get stripes, wraps etc done before the opticoat. Now am more confused.

It would be great if one of the opticoat authorized dealers stepped up and came up with a package for us insydney like the guy in Victoria... They have got a really sweet deal... http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38336

There's really no point in opti-coating vinyl. Unless you value the vinyl more than your cars clear coat and paintwork.

Opti-coat is hydrophobic. It's not going to affect how vinyl would adhere to your car. Unless the installer is clueless.

With regards to pricing, it's similar to that "special offer" guy in Melbourne. Even if you just go in yourself. Not missing out on much.

You can. But not really necessary as the coating would basically look like the car has been freshly waxed.

IMO it still doesn't look as good as regularly maintained sealants and waxes. BUT... it's pretty close to it (if well maintained) and would take heaps of hours off detailing time. Not much debris would stick to the car, so claying is either minimal or not necessary (if maintained well).

Does the coating slowly deteriorate over time?

There is no problem clay barring it Michael. It is just another layer of protection over the clear coat....it will wear off over a few years depending on the product used...that is why a topup is needed each year or so, if you dont wax over it. If you had to polish out any scratches or heavy swirls you will lose it in that area. You can redo it yourself, it is simple enough to apply, it just requires a bit of prep. I had our xr6t done with permaguard four years ago and it is still very evident that it is there. The car is black and I have only waxed it once in those four years. Just a simple wash with ph balanced shampoo is enough. It comes up a treat. Normally you would apply wax etc over the top of it, but I have been too lazy. The guy who did mine gave me a bottle of it to use for any reapplying if needed. Note that you would not be able to see if it has worn through, it's totally clear, it just provides an extra level of depth visually to the paint. It won't stop scratches etc.
By the way, I guess your car is sitting at Baltimore still as well?
