If the gt500 handles like the zo6 and weights around 3500 lbs, why not?
Trying to make a GT500 handle like a ZO6 seams like a very tall order.

Ok but the GT350 based at $50k originally, they are $54,570 now when added the coolers etc. We're talking BASE price and build from there though. Obviously not many get a base car but only way to compare prices in a legitimate way between brands; the cost of entry.

The GT500 2014 had a base price of $55,110. Why would all the sudden the base price of a new GT500 go up $10k? Unless it is some crazy hp number car that justifies that price. It was already pushing 682hp as was.

The ZL1 has a base price of $61,140. The Hellcat is $62,495 base. Again, my bet is Ford comes in at $60-61k starting price to undercut both slightly. Further you can slap a FRRP supercharger on a 5.0 now and make 727hp under warranty for $10k on top of a GT.

They arent going to sell very many at a base price of $65k; but hypothetically it will be the highest hp production muscle car car on the road.

Especially if they use a twin turbo 5.0 and dont need hand build custom engines like the 5.2s were. That certainly jacked up costs a lot along with development of a special purpose FPC motor.

Why not? It's "faster" in a different way, straight vs track, different applications.

Also the R is only that much more expensive than a non R because of the carbon fiber wheels mostly. Even if you figure at cost to Ford those are something like $2k a wheel (they MSRP for $3500 to 4k each so figure markup), so $8k right there in extra part cost. Those are not needed when you are talking high hp numbers really.

absent the wheels the R is really just a $55,000 GT350 without the rear seats and a different spoiler.
Base GT350 price is $56,770. You need to add destination and GG tax.

Has anyone wondered if putting an edelbrock supercharger on a 1le can make the 1le as fast as the zl1? 50 grand 1le with a sc vs 63 grand zl1! I would like to see that outcome.

And it's not touching a ZL1. The Z will "probably" best an R. The old GT500 and Z where close on a track with corners, with the slight edge to the 500, and it needed the SVTPP, which put it close to if not 60k. I can easily see the performance pack new GT500 being 70k.

Agree with all of this. Pretty close to what I said on page 7.

Why are you guys even comparing a ZL1 to a GT350/R anyhow. It's not even a fair comparison. But honestly if the GT350/R had a sequential M6 or a A10 the ZL1 and GT350/R would be closer.

Because depending on the adm, for the same price you can purchase a zl1 instead of a gt350, and a zl1 + one mustang gt for a gt350r, since those cars are ridiculously priced. Even if we assume you can get a base gt350 for 56 grand, you can also find a zl1 for 63 grand. So 7 grand on top a gt350 is not too bad.

I paid $63000 for my GT350. If I really wanted I could throw a blower on it and waste the ZL1. But what's the point. That's like sacrilegious. Besides the demand is higher for the GT350/R. The ZL1 is just a Camaro 1LE with a blower and coolers. If you go by posted times from different days which I'm well aware are not the ideal, the ZL1 is less than 3 seconds faster. Put a R vs M6 ZL1 on the same track same day same driver and let's see.

No way will you ever get a ZL1 plus mustang for the price of a gt350R You sure do exaggerate.

I have seen a gt350r going from 90 to 120 grand on cars.com. Not kidding! GT350R might actually beat the zl1 on a short straight and twisty track, i would like to see that. But overall performance wise, i dont think they are even on the same league, similar to comparing a gtpp to a gt350. I also would like to see a supercharged 1le vs zl1 vs gt350r comparison. Some people on the camaro forum were able to purchase 1le's below 40 grand. Supercharger upgrade on a 1le might be the cheapest performance bargain besides the mustang gt.

I know what the R's go for.
And I agree the R could give the ZL1 a run for its money.

Looks like its bacwards lol, zl1 gives a gt350r a run for its money.

I just read the first test article from chevytrend. Those guys try soooooo hard to put the best numbers when it comes to chevy products there is no doubt, but I wouldn't expected the zl1 to put better figure 8 numbers than the gt350R, 23.3 vs 23.1 seconds! The car also stops from 60mph in 96 feet. It has more than 200 lbs over a gt350, either the tires are miracle tires or gm really did spend some time on the handling.

The Alpha chassis is a work of art. What ever car that is on that frame puts down great track numbers. The ATS-V just beat the gt350 time at Chuckawalla. So a sedan beats a purpose built track car just shows how good that chassis is.

As planB would call it, a platform built for a 4 cylinder sedan.

I think it is hilarious people bench race cars that are not even in showrooms yet.

So basically you guys are comparing a ats-v magazine article on a car that was tested on a different day, different driver? Because I looked on the web and all I see is talk on the Camaro site. A gt350 is not a track built car, it's a production car. Just like the ZL1, 1LE, GT350R etc. you go to the dealer, you order/buy it and drive off. A track built car is a GT4, FR350S, GT350R-C etc.
A .01 is hardly anything to cheer about.
