I averaged 25mpg on 26psi of boost, 91 octane, making over 400hp.
27 mpg on 87 in my 6. Yes I am not making 400hp but I am saving in gas. My point remains, EB and V6 are a wash for MPG savings so MPG can not be used as an advantage for the EB.

If performance is your top priority though you should go with the EB or GT. EB you can tune for a more power for cheap and the GT is in the performance class of its own.
I doubt you can tune the EB for more power without messing up the warranty. If the engine springs a leak and Ford detects a tune, they will give you the stink eye.

You can do the math, but my feeling is you could buy a lot of gasoline for the price spread between v6 and EB.

For the most fun, manual transmission > choice of motor  . Unless it breaks. And then its slightly less fun. But with v6 / EB generating lower torque the manual should be solid.

I had a 2013 V6 Premium convertible. Loved the car. 305 hp was the same as what my '98 Cobra had (the Cobra had more torque and was faster) so it had plenty of power for the street. That being said, I loved it till I saw a GT. There's just something about the SOUND of that V8 that screams performance. At the time, I couldn't afford a GT, and was happy just to be driving the Mustang. Later in life now I can afford the GT, so that's what I drive now.

Simple answer. If it's what you can afford, you'll be glad you bought it. Doesn't mean you won't look longingly at the GT, but that can always come later if that's what YOU WANT when finances permit.

Mileage is only better as long as you stay out of boost. Lets not forget that. Add to that the fact that the EB needs 93 to make full power and your money savings from better MPG vanish.
No, not true... at least for my car... with a tune. Not sure about EB cars without tunes though.

I was "in boost" most of the weekend and got 27 mpg. Had I drove like grandma, guess I could have gotten 29 to 32. But to me 27 and 32 is the same... makes no sense to attempt to say one is better than the other over a weekend. Just saying so people don't think you hit boost and it goes down to 10 mpg or something.

Ok so your matching my car in terms of mpg but you are still running a higher octane which means more $$ per month. My statement remains true that the EB does not save you money in MPG.

To all: I am not trying to knock on the EB. Just stating simple facts that the EB does not have a cost saving advantage over the 6 in terms of MPG.

Fact the V6 can run with reg at full power is a major plus... and one that would have gotten me to buy that engine, had I not wanted a vert with a premium package.

Fact is the performance difference between the v6 and EB (without tune) is small in regular street driving. I'd have to say a EB with a tune is really a lot of fun though.

Both are fun cars either way. I don't care if you knock the EB... I was clarifying that boost does not necessarily mean 10 mpg (even if you did not say that specifically), if someone lays into boost for a fun weekend.

I really would prefer the manual but the problem is I have other people in my family who may occasionally drive it. But they would need it to be an auto :( .... How to get around this problem?

Tell them to suck it up and learn a manual...

On a serious note though, the auto can be fun with the paddles. No not going through the gears fun but with manual control you can keep the 6 in its power range very effectively.

Buy them a used POS.... and that is not "palm operating system".

Have them learn the manual.. not hard. I have the auto and love it in this car. Auto is great in this car... faster in many cases as well.

3.7 v6 is a great car, and later you needed more power you can always turbocharge it. For the same price you paid for GT but you get near 600whp.

Might any of them be teenagers near driving age? Or at driving age? Possibility exists for a hand me down when you're ready for your next car... like a manual GT maybe? In that case... maybe an auto. It'll save you LOTS of scary grief teaching the kids how to drive a stick. And... once you get the new one... nobody else will know how to drive it. Worked for me!!!

That is all...

Get what you can afford. If performance mods are in your plans than I'd go for the EB.

I am of the same thought as a few other members here: if Ford had elected to option the V-6 with the Premium Package and the Performance Package, I would have chosen and purchased it over the EB Premium I currently drive. I drove the V-6 and i enjoyed the "linear" and constant feel of its HP/torque curve over the EB's HP/torque curve that builds up to/with boost. The two things that ultimately convinced me to purchase the EB Premium over the V-6 (with the 051A Option Package, of course!) were the availability of the Premium Package, with its associated options like leather seating, NAV, rear parking sensors, enhanced security package and Sirius Radio, and the Performance Package. I wanted the nicer interior and a few amenities in my daily driver, as well as the upgraded handling parts of the EB. However, I don't think you can go wrong with the V-6; before buying the EB, I drove a 2011 Nissan Altima 3.5 SR for 5 years. It had 270 HP/248 FT LBS torque and I never "wanted" for more power. I twice drove from Georgia to California and averaged nearly 30 MPG (on 89 Octane gas, which I always used), while averaging 75ish MPH on both trips. As others have said, if you can live without the upgraded interior options and don't want to purchase the Performance Package, the V-6 is a great car and can be purchased (at least in the SE part of the USA) for about 25K, with the optional 051A Package. At the end of the day, you will be driving the car and as importantly, making the payments. Purchase and drive what you can (1) Comfortably afford and live with year around where you live and (2) Purchase what car truly make you happy and you want to drive everyday, so you don't have "Buyer's Remorse" in a few months. Good luck with your decision.
