I'm curios about members listed here who are 40 plus that are gt350 owners here and happen to own a classic or antique car how they feel about there gt350 or other new cars receiving awards /trophys at local car shows.
As much as I love my car I've parked away from other cars during shows trying not to disrespect other cars there that are 60-25 years old and have long stories how they have finally come back to there original glory.Am I being ahole about this ? When some guy just finished his car after 5 years of blood sweat and tears loses to a late model whatever.
I could just be totally biased as I was lucky enough to have worked on 55-65 fords as a kid due to my dad being a ford nut consisting of crown Vic's,tbirds, stariliners and sun liner.Spent many weekend drives trying to get some obscure part from ad listings on Hemings (no internet net yet)
I'm not bashing new car owners as I'm also one ,I'm just biased about somone driving from showroom to car show bragging about there new whatever they just recieved ups and bolted on.

I am 47 , own a 2016 gt350 ..and I like the new ones better...if the car show people that hold the show do it correctly, they do awards by the generation of the cars and not bunch them all together .

My car hobby is primarily the old stuff - the GT350 is just a fun new car that compliments my Ford stuff nicely. It's not a car I'd take to a show or cruise night, but I certainly understand why someone for whom it's an only car (or an only fun car) would want to and I welcome the company at such events.

As for awards, that's not why I stop at those events - I just like to look around and see cool cars and craftsmanship up close.

Having some of the top new cars show up is icing on the cake, as it's an opportunity for me and others who may not normally get close to those cars (GT350s, Hellcats, Vipers, Z06s, etc...) on a regular basis to check them out, and talk to owners.

So, I say - the more the merrier.

I've shown mine last year. Since there were so few on the road, I wanted to give car enthusiasts the chance to see up close and personal. Have also shown with my 1966 K-code since they are exactly 50 years apart in terms of build dates.

Based on the shows I've been too, just about every other car has swirled out paint and mine doesn't. Old or new, I couldn't car less about other owners feeling disrespected.

I like to disassemble things.
If anyone ever sees me and my GT350 at a car show, surrounded by velvet ropes, hood up with a stuffed animal or toy snake atop the engine, please feel free to shoot me.

This. No different than taking the car to Cars & Coffee, in my opinion. My son and I just got back from the Indy to Bowling Green leg of the Hot Rod Power Tour... Had a great time, and mine was the only 2016 Track Pack out of all the cars there.

Same story last weekend, when my son and I showed off the car at the SAAC national convention at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and met a couple of 2017 owners who were there showing their cars too. No velvet ropes or stuffed animals here... I track my car too. But I love the fact that wherever I take it, there are usually plenty of Z06 Corvettes and Hellcat Challengers, while I'm nearly always the only GT350 there. And I really enjoy the camaraderie from chatting with people who stop by to see the car and ask questions.

This.

I go to cars and coffee events where everyone there has neat cars and are like minded about the car hobby. I avoid events where there is any kind of judging and if I do attend, I usually don't pay for the "judged" portion.

I find that judged car shows usually attracts what Epiphany described. I'd prefer to never see another green alien, rubber snake, stuffed child crying on a car, strobes, blue wire loom or storm trooper model...again.

I go to shows to meet and talk, I want to check out their cars and they want to check out mine. I don't need a trophy for buying a car. I let the people who built there's do that stuff. Most shows in Maine separate the older and newer cars so there is no conflict. I have had some awesome conversations about our cars with a hellcat, z06, and zl1 owners and met a really nice boss 302 owner and talked and compared for an hour.. I have met no haters, everyone is very nice . I don't think my car is better, just different

To the OP, I feel the same way about new cars and car shows... You have fully restored beauties, and the guy that just bought his car last week and waxed it competing for a trophy! I have never understood this.

Now I will go to shows such as mustang meets, etc., but that's more to socialize and meet other owners/see mods people have done. The mentality that I should win a trophy to me seems silly.

This level of detailing knowledge explains why the paint on most show cars is so bad.

I go to cars and coffee and have been in 1 show and stayed for half of it. I go just to mingle and support the cause. I don't ever expect or even want to win anything. It's too bad - if my car steals the others limelight. They are all cars after all.
I like a lot or cars and like some of the newer stuff I don't like them all. I like to see me some 67 and 68 fastbacks. I may pick up a pristine example of one of them some day in which someone else did all the hard labor to bring it back to being a show winner but I'll probably just take off during half time of the shows because it's not about winning anything to me. I win by just being there.

Winning a trophy because Ford built a cool car makes no sense to me. I don't mind seeing new cars in their own section at a show, but prefer them separated.

At the Mustang 50 anniversary show in charlotte, they were all mixed together, and I didn't really dig that aspect of it.
