Winter tires??

Because of the amount of salt Michigan uses.

One word: undercoating.

I think the people looking for answers to this question are not driving their Shelby in 10 inches of snow.

This car will be my daily driver. Not taking it out on bad days, but sometimes a Michigan dusting is bad enough, and therefore I want snow tires.

RWD cars are capable in winter. It's like people forget that we had RWD cars back in the day (I'm 28 btw) and people survived just fine.

@OP, check out Tire Rack. This link should take you to a 2012 Mustang GT w/ 235/18 tires and standard brakes. That's what's indicated on your profile, so I just used that. You can search for your exact car, and you can filter by winter tires. I highly recommend the Blizzak WS80. It's about $700 a set for the tires alone (assuming 235/50R18).

OOPS, looks like you're looking for tires on the GT350 (congrats). I accidentally (and jealously) wandered into this subforum. Apologies.

Sorry, looking back I realize I said "this car", but should have specified. I have heard great things about Blizzaks, just haven't seen any online in the GT350 sizes, however. If I was keeping my GT, I'd go with your recommendation, though. Thanks for the response.

What I want to know is 1) if anyone has experience with sizing winter tires on the STOCK wheels. And 2) if not, will other rims fit on the vehicle?

If you really have to, I would get a narrow wheel and tire combo for winter. In Germany, I had a winter set for my Supra which were the 295 winter sottozeros. I only drove a couple of times a year in the winter because my registration inspection for that car happened to fall in December. I had to have winters to pass inspection. Wide tires do not grip on the snow or ice and you will loose traction. You will be driving a 3800lb sled.

Check out the recent Car & Driver - I think December issue. It has a Mustang GT and Camero on the cover. There is an article about snow tires. The Nokiens were best, and the Michelins were also quite good (as I remember). I run the Nokiens on my work van, and they are impressive.

Tire Rack is also a great starting point to find available sizes. A dedicated set of rims is a worthwhile investment if you plan to keep the car for many years (as I do with all my cars). Also, going to a narrower rim is a great idea for snow tires. This will likely help with tire sizes. Of course, the rims will have to have the correct bolt pattern and offset.

Some of you act like its gonna be destroyed in the snow and salt. I've had all my cars outdoors 24/7 and not one was rusty, or destroyed in any way. A few Corvettes(Z06), Cobra, BMW's(M3), Raptor, etc.....They all were exposed to the elements and not one melted. They all looked fantastic cleaned up. No scratches, no dents, no rash, no rust, no nothing. Its a fkn car, meant to be driven.

I also live in Michigan, Why would you buy this car and drive it in the winter? Save the tire money and buy a winter beater. It's not worth ruining your shelby or dreams.

Maybe the OP wants to test the superior grip the winter tires will provide on below freezing road surfaces?

Michelin pa4 n spec come in 285/40/19. Those should fit the stock wheels front and back on the gt350.

I just checked the GT350 supplement guide. Page 43 references winter tires and says, "Please call the Ford Performance Info Center at 1-800-367-3788 for specific winter tire recommendations."

There must be a solution then. If I find anything out, I will post my info here.

Fair enough. I drive my GT in the snow. I have 255/35/19 & 295/35/19 Pirelli Winter Sottozero Serie II on Forgestars.

Thanks for the recommendation. I am going to try to call Ford Performance and get their insight, but I may end up going the route you said and just getting a set of dedicated wheels. Hopefully they are not too expensive... I don't care about having "cool looking" wheels in the winter as long as I can put a safer tire on them.

Nobody put snow tires on a mustang. Especially a shelby and 19" wheels. The shelbys have 15" rear brembos good luck. I don't think a 18" wheel will fit. For $700 u can buy a beater.

I'm a nobody who can't stand driving a boring car half the year. A $700 car is going to be pretty crappy. Bought a car for that recently? Last year I drove my 2015 GT exclusively year round. The last three years I've been driving various late model Mustangs in the snow. Prior to that I was driving 80s Mustangs with engine swaps year round. Believe me the modern cars are a lot easier and more fun in slippery conditions. This year I bought an '03 Explorer for the worst days.

Yeah I'm having a lot of trouble deciding whether I will drive this car I love in the salt because I know it will dissolve eventually.

What part of 'just answer the question' don't you understand? My bad for 'only' being able to afford my GT350. Enjoy yours....

The amount of trolls here is unreal. The question was if there are winter tires available for the GT350 or not. I searched online for GT350 and nothing came up. There are two different sized wheels, and my buddy told me they do not make them for those sizes. I am asking in the GT350 forum for answers. If you have to give the, "why not buy a beater?" line, then save your response and go crawl back in your hole.

Tire Rack has snow tires available to fit the front rims. You could by two or four additional front rims and then fit snow tires to them. That would be one possible solution. Tire Rack does not have snow tires to fit the rear. I don't want to buy 4 rims $$$, and I don't like the idea of switching tires back and forth every year because I think the rims will get messed up.

The snow tires from my 2011/2015 GTs are 255-40-19. I think it should be possible to find a rim that clears the GT350 brakes and also will accommodate these tires. The front 2015/16 GT PP wheel is a 19x9 (PN M-1007-M1995B) and I think that might work. I just called Ford Performance and they say they don't know but they doubt it would fit. :frusty:
So I don't know. I guess my next step is trying to find someone local to me with a 2015 or 2016 GT PP that is willing to help me check whether they clear.

I'm not saying you can't drive a shelby or mustang or any sports car in the snow. Trust me, I know I live in Michigan. I'm just saying I'd hate for someone to ruin their car. For what a good set of good snow tires and wheels cost along with canceling your insurance to only fire and theft you could buy a winter beater.

Yes, I've searched as well, and agree the issue seems to be the wider rear wheels. I would ideally not want to, but I'd be okay spending up to $1,000 on some cheap wheels for winter tires. The only thing is I haven't found info as to whether or not what wheels could fit over the huge brake calipers.

Someone at Ford has to know something. I know the case of someone wanting winter tires on a GT350 is more rare than not, but c'mon... the company is based out of Michigan, and I have seen a video of one of the execs saying this can just as well be a daily car you go to pick up your groceries in.
