Leave the battery in the car on a tender. If you remove it how will you know if it was stolen or fvcked with? Phone is only a minute call to police. Or drive two hours to find an empty space where you once had a Mustang.
It may be in a shipping container by the time you find out it is gone and on the way to a new owner in Europe.
Be careful with the battery tenders and do not go cheap. As a volunteer fireman for the past 18 years, I have seen more than a few houses burned up from trickle charger malfunctions. This one happened to be my neighbor.

Get a good battery tender. When I pulled the battery for winter storage on ā€˜16 GT, couldn’t lock the car doors & the window was stuck 1/4 inch down like when the door opens normally & glass drops. Also, car didn’t store emissions, wouldn’t pass e-check b/c ā€œcomputer not readyā€. Had to get 30 day tags & never passed e-check after checking weekly for months. Drove the car all summer & finally figured out it had to go thru the drive cycle. Didn’t want to keep getting tags, drove on expired sticker for a while. Drive cycle seems easy, but it’s a pain. Unfortunately, car was totaled in the fall & still never got it to pass e-check prior. Hope this helps

I take my battery out and store it in a warm space. I put an "intelligent" tender on it about once a month to charge it back up. I prefer not to leave the tender on all the time for the reason @bankyf mentioned even with it being a good one. Never had an issue come spring with settings etc...

I’ve never had an issue leaving a battery hooked up to a battery tender all winter, any type of vehicle. Batteries won’t freeze if they are kept at the appropriate voltage.

I would leave the battery in it hooked up to a tender, & pull the fuel pump fuse (take it home - leave w keys). That would likely provide enough time for police response if theft is attempted.

You could use this to save settings
