INITIALIZATION MUST BE PERFORMED WITH THE DOOR CLOSED! (For convertibles, top and the quarter glass must be in the up / closed position.)
From the window switch, perform the following steps without stopping:
Operate the window UP and stall for 2 seconds. (Hold The Switch)
Operate the window DOWN and stall for 2 seconds. (Hold The Switch)
The smart window motor will be initialized and one-touch-UP and Short Drop will be operational.
Cycle the window glass an additional five (5) times to set the window "Soft Stop" for the down position.
TIP - VOLTAGE RANGE OF OPERATION: 9-16 VOLTS (AT THE MOTOR)
Can anyone confirm if this works to enable one-touch UP for a convertible?

It does not work for 2015 Convertibles. It worked perfectly on my 2005 Vert and probably every s197 vert.

When using one-touch up, if the window senses contact with or interference by another object before it reaches the full up position, it will reverse direction and go full to the down position. Window glass alignment with the convertible segment of the window frame may have been causing this condition at an unacceptable rate, hence the deletion of the feature from 'verts. I once had a car in for service (not a Ford) and a premium feature (heated washer solvent) was deleted from the vehicle due to a recall, not fixed or replaced, but deleted.

That's just lazy development. I bet if that's the case they're working to fix it and roll it out as a later revision, or maybe on 2016. Shouldn't be that difficult. It still seals on a rubber seal, so the top frame shouldn't affect it...especially if they had it working on S197s!

Maybe the bounce back sensors (the ones that detect if something is in the way, stops the window, and rolls it back down) couldn't be/weren't engineered into the new convertible design? I know the design of the convertible calls for heavier reinforcement on the sides and frame to make up for the weakness caused by the lack of a hard top. They developed the convertible from the ground up rather than just chopping the top of the fastback so maybe that has something to do with it?

I suspect that they intended to include that feature, but ran into some kind of last minute glitch. What makes me think that is because my owner's manual had a one-page correction addendum that stated that the one touch windows were "coupe only". I hope it is something that can be worked out for the 2016 models so we can all buy the parts and retrofit our cars in the near future.

Damn it, I was just about to make a thread asking why can't I one touch roll up my windows
Figure I'll bump this thread up in case anyone has clues on how to enable this feature with or without ford's blessing.

Not having one touch-up is driving me off the wall - first car I've ever had without it (my 1980s BMWs even had it).

Coming from the BMW world where we would just code in any features left out or intentionally turned off by the manufacturer. Hopefully someone works at ford or in service and has an idea about where to start :)

Yeah I've been waiting to get a service manual so I could check out the wiring diagrams and see if I can figure it out.

Side note: I'm not a Chevy guy at all, but the new 2016 Camaro convertibles will have:

  • Fully automatic operation with latches that automatically release and secure the top
  • Capability of opening or closing at speeds up to 30 mph
  • Remote opening with the key fob
  • A hard tonneau cover that deploys automatically, providing a more refined, finished appearance when the top is lowered and stowed.
  • Not sure but guessing they will offer one-touch up windows?

Get with it Ford! What we have is far better than the 2014 Mustangs, but you gotta keep up with the competition! If I was cross-shopping Mustang and Camaro convertibles, this could be the deal breaker IMO....

Yeah, a bit disappointed with some of this. Just feels like much of the car was half-baked. The new Camaro, specs wise, looks as if it'll blow the Mustang out of the water but styling wise it doesn't do much for me (especially the interior - I very seriously thought about buying a Corvette but the GM styling just doesn't do much for me).

That said - hopefully we can remedy some of this, I can deal with a manual latch and having to come to a stop but dammit, automatic up/down windows have been around since the 80s and standard on regular cars for over a decade.

We can't have one touch up because the windows don't stop short of the roof line if you raise the top and windows at the same time. When I close my top, I also roll my windows up at the same time, but I let go just short of closing all the way so the windows can be seated properly once the top is closed.

The system is smart enough that if you have the windows up with the top down, then try to put the top up, it will roll the windows down (though I don't know why it won't just roll it down slightly). They could have easily programmed the windows to still auto-up, either after the top is latched or in the case when you're using the windows with the top up...it was just lazy design, probably to meet deadlines. (I'm an engineer so I will blame Product Management or Marketing!)

You can roll the front windows all the way up the second after you start putting the top up. I think the designers were afraid people might do this
