Nope...i was wrong. They didn't do a straight calculation they adjusted.

All I can tell you is

PP are 7.47 long x 3.36 Tall
Wilwood 14s are 5.87 long by 2.87 Tall

The shorter height is an obvious byproduct of the smaller ring and the length is probably also interrelated with making sure it clears most 18 inch wheels

Much of what I posted above remains true however the surface area difference is certainly more than 2sq inches.

I was considering 19 inch wheels but this seals it ..

I MUST take advantage of that by getting 18s when I get my extra set.

The Wilwood pad area is smaller than the OEM 4 pot.
More to brakes than surface area.

If i understand correctly the piston count and rotor style make the biggest difference, along with cooling and pad compound. Size is just one way to dissipate heat. If you are dissipating heat better or just differently... then the size issue becomes well...a non issue.

The OEM setup would have faded and probably glazed with the pedal going to the floor under conditions the aero6 do fine in.

You can of course correct that with new rotors and pads but it isn't even necessary unless you plan to track your car or need to run 18 inch wheels.

The nice thing about the smaller plate and pad sizes is that replacement will probably be cheaper and they probably cross sell these with kits from some of their other offerings which may explain why there were more pads available than Bmacil expected and hopefully will help ensue replacement items stay on the market for at least 5 years or more.

I tentatively plan to track my car AND I've kept my 18 inch stockers AND I got a clearance deal on price not available to the general public usually so they made sense.

Your mileage may vary. :)

Which is actually very nearly the same size as the PP Brembo pad. The Brembos distribute their force much better, plus have the bridge bolt, which means better pad wear and better pedal feel. The only thing that allows the brembos to bite harder, outside of pad compound, is the extra 0.5" of radius that the pads act on, increasing brake torque.

Not likely. It should perform similar to the previous gen GT500 calipers.

It allows you to run 18s which I kept my stock 18s for winter
So you drive this in the winter ? Is there merit in being concerned with Wilwoods piston seal design in areas that use road salts along with beet juice additive seeping into the piston bore.
IMO , This is a potential corrosion problem for winter users. Summer, track cars, not so much.

Ahh, that explains why i have also seen one of the series of aero6 sold as replacements for GT500 Brakes

Those brakes put the Shelby on the top 20 list of all times best braking cars as of 2015, but i think the 13s and 14s used 15 inch rotors and it was the 07 to 12s that used 14s.

Those brakes even with the HEAVY 5.4 Liter Tinity stopped the mustang in 101 feet.

The current mustang GT takes 104 feet even with the 6 piston brembos, but of course the S550 is also a fat pig compared to an S197.

I suspect tires are the bigger part of the difference though as the PP2 with the sport cups 2 stops in 94 feet.

I don't think stopping power is an concern, keeping them cool is the concern and as i pointed out, the aero6 is far superior to stock brembos in that regard.

We don't have salt and beet juice here in GA. I kept my stock 18s to rotate on in future winters just to save wear and tear on my bigger more expensive summer tires that don't really give you too much of an advantage to run when it is 45 degrees and raining for 10 weeks straight.

Edit: Many people thing something like a moderately light weight 18 x 10 is superior for track use than even a 19. At my skill level...it would never matter but there it is nontheless.

For my personal information could you reference a link to the heat dissipation your speaking about.
Thx
