Will this damage on the rotor lip cause any issues?

I just received some new rotors and unfortunately one of them arrived damaged. There is a raised lip on the edge of the inside surface. See attached photos. I emailed the Ford dealership parts website I ordered them from, so let's see what happens. But will this cause any issues if installed? Probably some vibration right?

Looks like someone dropped it at some point. Is the roughness leaning out of the face or inward? If outward it'll probably cause a bit of roughness (pulsing) when braking as the bump carves its way through the brake pad. If inward, it's probably not noticeable.

Sadly it's outward. I have bad luck with ordering these rotors. The last time I ordered them a few years back one of them had excessive run out (about 2mm difference) which caused a crazy vibration and squeaking. Had to get that replaced too....

Maybe take a file and file off the high spot...

I’ve had rotors show up like that from time to time. They’re so heavy on my 550’s it’s pretty common. I use a fine file and get rid of where it protrudes toward the pad surface area. I don’t use a grinder just because a file is easier to control. Have yet to have an issue. This is assuming you don’t want to have them send a replacement.

Yeah I'll see what they say. I definitely don't want to pay for return shipping.

I would just take a file to it. Most of that is outside the pad swept area, but definitely check and make sure the rest is flat.

if you can fix it without removing much material and the thing isn't cracked it might be okay...
....but if it was me i'd request a RMA just for peace of mind.

You can also take it to a parts house and have them put it on their brake rotor lathe to check for runout and also, they can machine just the deformed part off easily if they are careful and know how to use the lathe correctly. It may cost a few dollars but at least you will know it's not bent/warped and have the surface flat for the pads to seat.

Looks like the pad may even miss it?

I would send a pic and demand a replacement plus they pay for return shipping. Koni seller didn't even ask me to send them the struts just took a pic of the model and year stickers they gave me a refund next day.

That's why we don't sell them anymore. Hit it with a file or grinder and send it. Ford Service parts are not boxed for shipping. If you put it on and it has runout, file a warranty claim, with your local dealer. Motorcraft has a warranty.
