Demand a free replacement, it probably won't matter if you file down any "proud" material that could interfere with the pad but this is the kind of part that must be scrapped if dropped within Ford's possession.

I just received some new rotors and unfortunately one of them arrived damaged. There is a raised lip on the edge of the inside surface. See attached photos. I emailed the Ford dealership parts website I ordered them from, so let's see what happens. But will this cause any issues if installed? Probably some vibration right?

Was the box they were shipped in damaged as if the shipper dropped it versus it being dropped before it got into shippers' hands. If no damage to outer shipping box, then it is a ford problem or damage to outer shipping box then it is shipper issue and as such will likely have to file claim with shipper not ford.

That is why I suggested taking to parts house to check for runout, the raised metal damage could have also caused some runout warpage as well. If it's warped, then it definitely needs replaced. If runout is acceptable then just have raised metal carefully machined flat with existing surface.

Hard to say regarding the box. Both boxes for both rotors were pretty beat up....

The other rotor looks fine.

I did a quick and dirty check of potential runout using a ruler and caliper and it seems alright.

Last time I ordered these rotors there was no visible damage but one of them had crazy runout of +/- 2mm that I was able to easily detect using the same method.

I'll wait to see what the seller says and decide how best to proceed from there. Even though Motorcraft offers the 3 year parts warranty, last time it was very difficult to find a dealership to help me with the claim. Ended up having to go to the dealership I originally bought my car from over 1 hour away.

Also, the raised bit of metal extends 1.9 mm from the edge of the rotor. Looks like the pads make contact up to about 1.5 mm from the edge on my current rotor. So right at the border of pad contact but still enough to cause some vibrations I think.

So the seller (a Ford dealership parts website) told me to file a claim with the "Extend" purchase protection they include with every order. Let's see how that goes lol

So I submitted the claim through Extend and just received a virtual visa card for the balance. Took like 5 mins. I am honestly flabbergasted......

I ordered from fordpartsonsale.com. They include this purchase protection at no extra charge (or at least they don't list it as a charge in cart lol).

So the damage sucks, but the resolution has been pretty easy. Which I honestly still cannot believe.

I'll probably order from them again given how it worked out.

So, you get to keep the damaged rotor and have the funds to buy another new rotor.

I'd use the virtual visa to order another one and probably add another to make a pair , File the damaged one flat and use it . Then you got a half price pair for further down the track .

Wow - that's actually pretty solid. I fully expected it to be like the typical "third party protection" service where they weasel out of it. Nice to know you can buy with confidence!

Wow...and that's how one stays in business and wins more business. Was the same with my Koni strut claim didn't even have to send them the struts....definitely buying from them again.

I just placed the order for the replacement rotor with the virtual Visa card from Extend. No issues. Fingers crossed it arrives undamaged :giggle:

I've had some bad luck recently. The crossbars for our Cayenne just arrived today and this is what the box looked like:

Now I'm trying to figure out if I'm missing anything lol

My older boy works for a shipping store. He just got an exhaust sent to him at home that was a box in a box. The inside box was damaged. He believes the shipper damaged the box and boxed it again. He was adamant about contacting the company before he opened the second box to ensure they knew so that if he had to return, that he wouldn't be responsible for the shipping costs. I guess that's a thing. It's hard to refuse delivery on a lot of things since shippers just leave stuff at your door, but in case of a box in a box, make sure to contact them before opening.

I once had a crank shaft show up on my door with the label pasted to the actual crank. No box or bag. UPS apparently damaged the box and decided to just deliver it without one. It was wild
