There is a new iron curtain falling across Europe. This won’t be short lived and Western Europe will have many more very cold winters as we will have inadequate household heating. In my opinion looking at what’s going on here now, we are beginning the enforced switching over from reliance upon Russian raw materials to being more self sufficient with renewable energy and nuclear.
people may want to look into insulating their homes. brrrrrr .

Welcome.

I’m afraid you’re not going to find an answer to your question because it involves predicting the future. As you have witnessed from the sometimes animated discussion within the thread, there are a lot of witness accounts, ideas and thoughts on the topic.

If you are considering buying a new car, the door is closing quickly. Production started almost six months ago on MY 22. Many dealers are asking for a mark up of $5K or more, but sometimes these can be negotiated down (and sometimes not).

If you are considering buying a used car, you will absolutely pay a premium. Some models and their pricing are highly speculative right now.

Other considerations…

- The S550 model is ending this year. The S650 has yet to be revealed. Appearance, options, colors, engine options, performance, etc., are unknown

- The 350 is no longer in production. You’ll notice by other threads the 350 and 350R in-particular are highly sought after. Expect to pay a lot at current pricing

- MY 22 is the last model year of the Mach 1, in its current form

- In general, the economies the world over are inflated right now, with several sectors speculative. Most people are going to overpay for almost anything

Aside from the initial purchase, have you thought out the long-term costs? The expenses involved in maintaining one? I started a spreadsheet which covers cost, taxes, insurance, parts, tires/rims, paint protection, etc., etc. It adds up quickly.

What is the purpose of the car? If a DD, some models you mentioned might not be a good idea, but tracking might be best suited for other models still.

You’re concerned about resale value. How long do you intend to hold it? If only a few years, now is absolutely the wrong time to buy anything. I cannot tell you when the next recession will be, but I can guarantee you we will have one in the future. We are a lot closer to the end than the beginning in this current cycle. During a recession the price/value of everything will fall.

IMO, the value of a Mustang will not be primarily driven by gas prices, although it is certainly a factor. Whether or not someone has a job or the finances to support, and the overall state of the economy and peoples' outlook will drive values the most. The Mustang in general is a GT/performance car.

Given all the above, unless you have your heart set on the current MY, it might be best to pause, study the topic and models further and save your cash. Wait until the economy begins cooling off. The selection of used cars will be better. Prices will certainly be better. It took me about 18 months to make my decision and I’m glad I waited.

Good luck in your search. Be sure to browse the threads for more insight still.
Thank you for the very detailed response @Skye! You mentioned a lot of good things to think about and it is a tough decision whether to buy now or wait. Thanks again @Skye! ❤

So 2018+ Mustang GTs run great on e85 which is currently a $1.00 a gallon less then premium in NY. Does require a tune which costs let's say $1000 but then you can burn e85 which is cleaner, cooler, cheaper and over 100 octane. You can also easily return to a gas tune for annual inspections, etc.

I Ford Performance would sell this tune especially now.

A different take on this and probably not typical but even with premium the mustang is less per mile to drive than the other two vehicles I own. Didn't buy it for economy, and add in the smile factor and it's priceless! I call it my therapy horse for a reason. :like: Jim

I doubt the sanctions will be long lasting. Once companies and countries realize the economic ass whooping that Russia will deliver by staying isolated, they will quietly be welcomed back into the equation. Even ignoring their energy contributions to Europe, they provide large quantities of necessary metals. And once they win control of Ukraine, now they will control 70% of the world's available Neon. When it comes to proving a point or allowing China to make off like bandits, there's only one obvious option that will be chosen.
Don't count on it. Bombing maternity wards and killing babies and pregnant women is a step too far. BTW, Russia is getting the economic ass-whooping - check the USD/Ruble.

Vehicles bought as daily drivers like larger SUV's and pickups could be effected by rising gas prices. People will move to smaller vehicles like the Maverick or Escape instead of a F150 or Explorer (just examples). This is not the case for the Mustang or other performance vehicles. Yes, it might actually increase Ecoboost sales because of its better mileage. But for those who want the power and sound of a Coyote the price of gas is not going to be a major issue.
Driving the car is a hobby; that it gets me from A to B is a bonus. Plus, the MPG really isn't bad on the s550... not much worse than alot of turbo-4's out there.

Disagree. The entire basis of the Mustang II (74-78) and the foxbody Mustang (1979-1993) was for a sporty, fuel-efficient Mustang. The Foxbody had the naturally aspirated 2.3L engine all the way until the very last day of production. In fact, most '93 models you'll come across are 4cyl cars (many have been engine swapped). These cars got great mileage and are still used by enthusiasts as economical commuter cars.
OK I'll have to agree with you on that one, back in the 70's to early 90's, and specifically for the 2.3L engines only. The same cannot be said for anything 2005 and up; 2005-2010 4.0 V6 (which I had) was a ranger motor with decent highway fuel efficiency, but crappy city city/hwy, as was the 4.6 V8....the 5.0L's are "efficient" in their outputs, but again not anybody's choice if you wanted a high powered vehicle that are "good" on gas.

But i think on top of all that, I'm just saying that it's unlikely any of us decided to get a mustang primarily for its fuel economy capabilities, no matter what the original pony car was designed for.

Yep, Russia is now on Pariah State status. They won't get back into the economic fold for years. Texas had a bigger economy than all of Russia before they invaded Ukraine and now I'd say they are about on par with North Dakota. Putin does not have the upper hand here and his people will come to their senses and run him out. I doubt anyone who buys a mustang/performance car is using it to commute several miles daily, so this impact of a rise in fuel costs is minimal. Europe and the UK have been paying these high fuel costs for decades.

yes,

GT used price will come crashing down, and maybe new ones too when demand drops off a cliff. I get 21mpg out of the GT so hardly a guzzler. Even my Twin-turbo 3.5EB in the F150 gets 23 so it's not like I need to mail the keys to the bank for lack of being able to afford 93 octane. Lots of people did that the last time we had expensive gas and the economy also went to sh*t.

This economy is experiencing 20-25% annualized inflation already and it's only March. Next month's report is going to be horrendous. EVERY time we have big inflation and high energy prices the economy tanks, hard.

The ADM frenzy for ecoboxes will continue if not intensify.
If you're wanting an F150 or other medium duty truck I expect those asking prices to drop into a blackhole. In about 3-4 months.

I hear gunshots every 2 days pop pop, popopppopop. Then cops
i'll raise you west chicago, 1 block west of the stadium. It's interesting trying to teach motorcycle safety to very white adult students when the cherry bombs, yeah that's what it was surely, go off a block or two over. Such a civilized and peaceful place Chicago...

I agree with you, but their bread and butter gas and oil exports are still going to much of Europe as usual because they can't afford to turn it off. Russia is even threatening to leverage that fact if relations continue to decline.
