Will 255's work for a 19x9.5 rim?

Hi Everyone,

One of my buddies is practically giving away the slightly used PP stock tires to me (I believe they are 255/40R19). Coming from the stock 235's, this would be a huge upgrade.

However, the 18x8s never looked right to me so I want to upgrade to wheels where I can fit the 255s now but open up the possibility of getting 275s down the line.

So.... here are my questions:
  1. Would 255's be too narrow for the 9.5s?
  2. Would a wheel with a higher offset (+53) change things at all?
  3. Are there alternative options are there that would meet my needs?

1. They will fit. GT PP tires will be 255/40 19 Front 275/40 19 Rear. Ecoboost was 255 square I think.
2. Don't understand the question ? Tire fitment ? Obviously no, has nothing to do with it. With higher offset, wheel will sit deeper in the well which is opposite to what most people want (as they generally want wheel / tire somewhat flush with the body)
3. But what are your needs ??? Looks ? Traction ? You can fit up to 285 at least on 9.5 inch rim or even try to squeeze 295 on it. There is plenty of alternative sizes to maintain (which reasonable tolerance) the diameter of the wheel.

Stock GT PP has rear wheel that is 19" / 9.5" / 52.5mm offset with 275/40 tire on it - that is as close as you can get to what you are looking for and there are hundreds of cars with it. With narrower tire the distance from the fender to the tire wall will be greater. Not a great look IMHO - if looks are your goal I would probably try to get an lower offset wheel or install 5mm spacer ?

Check Tire Rack's website and pick a tire, then look at the specs. They list the range of rim widths approved for each individual tire.

Check Tire Rack's website and pick a tire, then look at the specs. They list the range of rim widths approved for each individual tire.
While fit is #1, discussing other factors such as look is also important. Something technically could fit, but if it bulges for example, then I would definitely want avoid that. Anyone have pictures of their tires and 9.5 inch wheels?

He's just giving you the tires, right, not the PP wheels? If so yes, the 255/40s will fit on a 9.5 inch wheel, and you could replace them with 275/40s when they wear out. Attached is what my 275/40 looks like on a 19x9.5 inch wheel. Something in the 35 offset range would work well for a square setup.

If you intend to run 9.5” PP wheels on the front axle, you’ll need a 5mm spacer to clear the brakes.

Hmm I suppose I can just do a 9.5 in the rear and 9 in the front to avoid using spacers. That would essentially be the stock PP setup.

What about the TPMS sensor? Do you think I would have to replace them or reuse the old ones on my 235 PZeros?

You only need the spacers if you are going to use rear PP wheels in front. Plenty of 9.5 and even 10 inch wheels fit in front with the appropriate offset. If going with PP wheels I would rather use the spacer and have a square setup than going staggered.

No, you won't need spacers with +35 offset. The reason spacers are needed when you put rear PP wheels in front is there is less room to clear suspension in front. Those +52 offset wheels are pushed too far inside. A 5mm spacer works but it's barely enough.
