I have an Oxford White '15 GT premium and a '14 Arctic White C7. Both have about equal amounts of orange peel. As mentioned above, all production cars are going to have some degree of O.P. since they are not wetsanded by hand to remove the last 4 coats of clear that were never applied. ;)

The thread on Corvette Forum raged on and on about it, but I think the real take away here is that if you're that anal about it you should have the car custom painted and lighten your wallet considerably. It seems that's the only way some people will be happy.

I'm very OCD on my paint, but I have learned that I am not going to solve the O.P. problem because an aftermarket custom $10k+ paint job on a production car would be silly, in my opinion. If it shines and is uniform in color and texture and takes a sealant evenly I am okay.
The most important question I can think to ask you is which of your cars is more fun to drive and why? :)

Also, this begs pictures!!!

Can someone post pictures of this on 2015 Mustangs? I have yet to notice this and I've seen 3 of them so far.
The best way to see it in my opinion is to use a light and look at the reflection of the light source. You will see the reflection is "rippled" somewhat.

I think this so called problem is blown out of proportion in most cases. That thread on the other forum I was talking about was started and fueled by guys that were trolling and had no interest in buying the car, they just wanted to feel better about owning some older version and not "wasting their money" on the new one.

In the last 7 months I have been detained at the gas stations and parking lots all over the place by people wanting to checkout the car. Not once has anyone that was admiring and inspecting it say "oh, but that paint is horrible!"

My GT is still new to me, but I have to say the C7 Z51 is much better overall. I don't think that's a surprise to anyone based on the price of the cars and the $28k delta in MSRPs.

My initial feeling on the Mustang with the Perf Pack is that it is a little bouncy, but also floaty on the rebound. Also, I can definitely feel the weight difference entering corners and under acceleration.

Now, taking the C7 with the magnetic suspension out of the picture the Mustang is very impressive, especially at the price point that it comes in at. I'm just spoiled a bit.

I'm going to take pics of them as a pair this weekend and will put them in some off-topic area as not to ruffle feathers. :p

That's kind of what I assumed. I'm not saying the OP or anyone in this thread is this way, but on another site I've noticed some (not all) S197 owners are a little defensive about their own cars in light of the S550. I suspect this happens with any new generation. It won't be long before boat loads of them are jumping on board. :)

I think if you need a special light to see the "defect," it's not a defect.

Many of the S197 fans are really put out by the S550. I see it on other Mustang sites and on the vendor sites. It's too bad. "It looks like a Fusion" and "It doesn't look like a Mustang" are just silly if you actually look at the car and not just parrot the line. I agree, they will mostly come around. We saw this in 1993 (not so much in 1998) and even some in 2004. Guys like what they have.

I often believe people make up excuses about not liking it because they don't want to like it, because they cannot afford it or don't want to spend the money. JMO.

I have never owned a Ford so I can't speak on their quality, I do know however, that Nissan, Honda & Subaru have all had their paint woes over the years. My last car a Nissan 370Z had paint so brittle that it would flake off pulling off the dealership lot. Most people would buy a Z and then immediately install a 3M clear bra just to save from having to repaint the hood, bumper and fenders.

Honda, over the last few years, has been repainting the majority of the Civic's sold through 2006-2009 due to fading and clear coat peeling on the roof, hood and trunk.

Exactly. I've seen this more or less on every other Mustang site. Obviously this place is very pro S550, hence the site name. :D. You can see this site growing every day, looks like around 5,000 members now. I also see others on other stang forums trying to figure out stuff that's been discussed and clarified weeks and months ago here (understanding the 50th appearance pack vs 50th LE, the wheel options/combos, difference in badge insignias, etc). They're just catching up everywhere else. :)

I looked at the silver one on the showroom at my dealer and it wasn't bad at all. The paint job actually looked good.

While at a Ford dealership, I parked my 15 GT nose to nose with a Fusion and the only resemblance to the fusion is familial in nature, like a brother and sister separated by a few years.

That's about right. And everyone has forgotten the similarity between the 87-93 Fox and the contemporary Taurus, Tempo and even Escort. From the front, they were quite closely related.

I am a huge fan of the 197. I loved my 05 for every moment i got to drive it. those who are not on board with the S550 are really missing the boat.

but - car people have a reputation, and it is only validated by a small number in the community. If it is not their way, it is to be condemned in the harshest way possible.

I have a Camaro guy on my facebook who is just getting rotten over my car. every picture i post gets his worst anti ford back pocket comments.

Sounds like it's time to unfriend somebody. :D

I'm an admitted Chevy guy and I still think this car is an awesome evolution of the brand and a great performer.

I think it is criminal that you have yet to post pictures of your Stingray and Stang side by side!!!

Three huge reasons I never bought the 197.........Interior is HORRIBLE, nose dives while braking, and the ride height (I know this last one was easily fixed).

I don't know what it is, but I know that's the reason I'm here. I had a 2011 GT and have been a member on many of the mustang forums for years. In just over 2 years I had put nearly 60K miles on the odometer and knowing that I would be purchasing a 2015, I decided to sell it before I put any more miles on it and totally killed the value. Just been driving my 2004 Ranger since. I only recently started spending time on mustang forums again and could not believe the HATE so many people have for this car. Needless to say, I'm very happy I found this site.
