What?

Insulting or not, passing personal judgment or not, it most certainly is an opinion.

As far as insulting opinions go, that particular opinion is pretty tame. Anyone getting their knickers in a knot over it needs to step away from the keyboard, have drink or two and relax - at least in my opinion.
I guess I could say anyone that classifies a certain age group of people that like a spoiler needs to get a life?

Not sure about you bud.... but I don't wear knickers. If thats your preference though I won't judge you:cheers:

I'm a fan of spoiler blades on cars that tend to have conservatively modeled rear decks, like your typical German sedan and coupe. If a car is designed to account for this to begin with by having some type of integrated kick-up in the rear, like the S550's, it looks a little like it's added for the sake of it. As a result I prefer the clean look of the PP. If there's gonna be a spoiler, either design a new trunk lid and make it integrated, or go big and add a functional wing.
So what is your opinion on the Saleen rear spoiler on their rendering? It looks like a spoiler on a spoiler on a spoiler. I have never cared for the Saleen spoilers. they always seemed over the top.

Fair enough. And only on special occasions. :headbang:

Looks like a satin black painted non GT spoiler to me.
Must admit, the added "Spoiler" looks almost as attractive as the Body Striping....(not)! IMO, of course.

That yellow profile render? Looks terrible IMO - that stuck on flat deck that extends well beyond the rear is the worst kind of spoiler. It just ruins the looks.

I feel the spoiler detracts from the car's look. The spoiler also adds to aerodynamic drag and weight.

I doubt that spoiler has any performance value. They were probably thinking they could get a couple of the pounds back that the PP adds.
Right, that they take it off for the Performance Pack definitely implies that the spoiler is a performance reducer. Especially given that it's counter to the last 45 years of marketing practice (where performance models get bigger/added spoilers).

Given that the PP adds a front splitter, it's somewhat surprising that they couldn't develop a balanced, performance enhancing spoiler & splitter package.

Spoilers don't improve your vehicle's speed performance. The purpose it serves us to keep your car from going airborne. Think of it as an airplane wing pointed down. That absolutely adds to the drag of the car.

You could argue that you get more performance from added control, but this car isn't exactly light.

How do you know that the spoiler adds to the drag? It very well may reduce it.

Z is right. If a spoilers doesn't add to drag, then it's not doing the job a spoiler is supposed to do.

Notice you don't see them any more on very high speed cars? Because now the same downforce effect is built into the car (ground effects, splitters, belly pans etc, that actually function). And not there just for looks.

The mustang doesn't need a spoiler. It's simply looks. Personal preference. Same reason someone wouldn't want it. Personal preference.

Just looks better without the spoiler. Other than the 69/70 sportsroof or Fox body hatchbacks (the fox coupes and convertibles definitely look better w/o a spoiler) No Mustang should have a rear spoiler.

For me, I think it's because my first Mustang was '65 Fastback. When the '05 came out, which is modeled after the '65/66 fastback (NOT the '67/68!!), it really hit home how bad spoilers looked on Mustangs.

Not correct. While adding downforce typically adds drag, spoilers can reduce the drag by delaying when the air separates from the body. And in fact, given than lift also produces drag, a lift reducing spoiler (most stock bodies generate lift) already has some drag reduction happening. See one of the SAE papers from the 60's from NASCAR & LeMans aero development studies. Those show well designed spoilers reduce drag up to a given size, then start trading downforce for increasing levels of drag as the spoiler gets bigger.

Plus given that the PP loses 20 mph in potential top speed with it's shorter gears, a little extra drag shouldn't matter as much as extra downforce.

It make big horsepower and chicks dig it.
Seriously though, the factory S550 spoiler looks sticky taped on, is non functional and hinders installation of a better one. I'm not putting on plastic chrome door handle covers either or B pilar trim or fake fender vents.
