Smart move, honestly.
Agree it’s dangerous not to have a way to open any car door from the exterior in the event of an emergency. We’ll see how soon that law gets passed here… I’m sure NHTSA will monitor the situation.

Interestingly, Mercedes had a pull handle design since pretty much the beginning, specifically for mechanical leverage for this exact scenario.

Of course a lot of carmakers had/have a similar design, I just recall MB specifically mentioning it was for this.

What I read was that they are electrically operated and a loss of power impedes access in an emergency. Why can't the door handle be mechanical and still flush mount. I see that Dave Kindig has done it.

could be an easy fix, with a “fail open” solenoid…but how to trigger it is the question; airbags? crash sensor? underwater alert? Inclinometer?

and continued into the 80-90's with the Beretta door pillar handles
had an 88gt and a 91gtz back in the day and the handles were def. cool....
