I really wish the strut bar could be reinstalled after the whipple install. How close is the whipple to the hood after install? Is there room for a modified strut bar?

You may be able to get adjustable motor mounts but the existing STB would still not clear. A custom one would have to be fabricated.

Well I was considering a centri set up but have always wanted a PD blower and the more I read this thread i lean closer and closer to the Whipple :). I do have the 3.73 rear end would you recommend a 3.31 or 3.55 and have a general idea of how much it would cost to get those swapped out. I also plan on doing the install myself in the garage. My mechanical skills are probably average. I did lowering springs my self :). Are the install instructions very thorough?

I can honestly tell you IF you decide on a Whipple you will be ecstatic. This kit is a work of art. It runs and drives like factory until you mash the go pedal then hold on lol. My experience with Whipple has been just outstanding. Phenomenal customer service to say the least.

On the gears, that's a personal opinion. I will never track my car and will most likely never 1/4 mile it either. Mine is a "grocery getter" kind of car. The wife and I take of for long weekends often in it so ride quality is important to me. Most of my driving is around town and just enjoying the car so I wanted gears that would allow me to not row through the gears constantly. The 3.73 to me took the enjoyment out of every day driving so that was my main reason. 3.55 to me wasn't big enough of a difference to be worth the time/cost of a gear change. I love having the longer legs to allow the car to build up boost and wind out longer between shits. I am 100% certain they are the right gear for me.

The gears themselves are just shy of $200 and the rest is labor. Average is $500-$700 for labor so it is a big expense. You could always leave the 3.73, see how you like it and go from there.

The directions are pretty close I'm told. Maybe they have been updated but I'm not sure. I had mine installed this time for piece of mind warranty wise. I did the install on my 05' and it was pretty straight forward. Guys here including me can help you and Dustin @ Whipple has been a god send so you'll be covered either way.

Good luck with whatever kit you go with and be sure to keep us all informed either way :)

Jaime

Just PM me when you get your kit, I am local and would gladly stop by for a few to give you some pointers. I installed mine.

Your screen name looks familiar to me. Did you ever have a BMW 3 series?

Wel I have a Shelby but I can speak to 3:73 gears out back. I run a Trinity TVS with all bolts on. I make 659 Tq. You will be fine with 3:73's and a 6 speed. As for launching, you just need a good suspension setup, and some grippier tires :headbang:
In the 1/4 I do have to shift to 4th, but let me tell you, a PD blower and 3:73 can net a lot of :) per gallons...

Not sure what year your Shelby is but I can tell you 3.73 on the 6 speed makes for constant shifting. Having 6 gears did nothing for me. Still had to shift constantly. But, that's just my experience.

Shelby has a 2.97 first gear ratio, the 15 has a 3.66 first gear ratio. A 15 with 3.73 and FI will see 5th gear in 1/4.

No I never owned a 3 series. My girlfriend does lol. Yea I should be alright when it comes to the install. I read your thread which is very informative :). Well I can try the 3.73 gears for awhile and I can always change back in the future. Phunk you are basically gonna make me drop all this money on a Whipple. My girlfriend is going to kill me!

wow...did not know the gear in the trans was that much different. So yeah I guess maybe even going to a 331 in a GT may be good for that car.

Learned something

You'll need 3.31 to avoid a 5th gear shift with fi on a 15
