I installed my Whipple catch can with my new Whipple instal this week. Whipple directions says to instal on the pass side valve cover, but still the drivers valve cover vents/connects to the throttle body inlet tube. Shouldn't both sides of the valve cover be routed to a catch can? How are the rest of the Whipple guys dealing with this.

You can see the catch can on the pass side valve cover mounted to the oil fill, but what happens to the oil fumes from the drivers side valcover the goes to the inlet?

Negative, this like most other setups is for the passenger side.

UPR makes a "clean side" can for drivers side

So basically 2 catch cans are needed?

Well most people do not even consider the drivers side so I guess you could just not put one there and only run passenger side.

I did just for shits and giggles. I can tell you I haven't seen a hint of oil on the driver side even with having a blower.

Alright thanks man! I'll reach out to Whipple and see what thier take on the un filtered air coming from drivers side is. The pass side being that it's after throttle body would always be under strong vacuum, and the drivers side before the throttle body is under very little vac form the inlet at all, but still would have venting from the motor under high load conditions.

Typically the air is exiting the crankcase from the passenger side and entering the crankcase from the driver's side. The driver's side doesn't normally need a catch can because the air flow is moving away from the intake toward the crankcase. The primary reason for a catch can on that side would be to prevent a buildup of oil from being forced into the line by high cornering forces.

all V8 race cars use pass side ,vac pumps or catch cans
Driver side is usually sealed off tight .

In drag race nitrous apps we use vac pumps to create about 10Lbs of vacuum to pull out pressure off the rings which can be worth lots of HP . We data-log the pan van created during the run as its an indication of the health of the engine and tune.

The driver side is using a clean side separator and not a catch can. The separator will not let oil pass with the routing of it. It's pretty much catches anything being splashed up into the intake tube. We have been seeing that more with boosted coyotes lately so we developed this.

I used the lines that came with the Whipple supercharger kit for minimal miles and not driven hard at all. When I took them off to install my UPR oil separator kit, I had a little bit of oil in both lines. I'd say drive it around and little bit, and check the driver's side line and see what you think.
