Whines While Decelerating

I hear a whining noise from my car, but it only happens when the car is cold.

Bring the car up to ~30mph, lay off the accelerator, then I hear a whine while the car is decelerating. It sounds like it's coming from the right exhaust...?

After driving the car for about 10 minutes, it warms up and I don't hear it anymore. This has been happening from day 1 and I've racked up quite a few already...was hoping it was a new car break-in issue and would go away on its own!

Anyone else have this happen? What could it be? I plan to take it in this week, but would like to have an idea of what it may be first.

I've noticed this happening to mine as well, although I have a 2015 GT with 6MT and PP.

I was driving in 2nd gear and laid off the accelerator just like you did and noticed a whine. It does not happen when I am accelerating.

I think it may be with gears in the back though, and not the tires. I upgraded my 08 GT with 4.10 gears and the shop that did the first install did not do the job properly so it whined, but it happened all the time even when accelerating and even after a long time driving. It sounded just like the whine I'm hearing on the 2015 now.

I don't think it's quite the same thing, as the whine on the 2015 does go away after a few minutes of driving as you said, so I haven't brought it in to get it checked.

Probably read end gears. Sometimes when against back side of the teeth. And perfectly normal.

Try this. Drive in reverse. Get up to 15 or 20 mph. Hear it then too?

I'm pointing to the exhaust and not the gears because the first time I heard it, I had my car started with the automatic starter and as I approached my car, I could hear a slight whine coming from the exhaust.

Then it got louder when I drove off and decelerated. It does not happen during acceleration.

Any updates on the issue? Mine started doing this after getting the rear output shaft flange replaced... Starting to wonder if the drive train is junk in this car now.

I've been stalling on going to the dealer service shop bc it's a PITA. But I will take it there soon, couple weeks or so...

What I can tell you is that the only time I hear this noise is when it's cold outside. It's been warming up here lately, but got cold again for a couple of days and I heard the noise again. I have not replaced anything on my car.

Do you hear the noise all the time, only after you replaced the flange, only when it's cold...etc? Just trying to see if there are other similarities.

Starting to worry about the noise but hate the dreaded "can't duplicate" answer and wasting of my time.

This is exactly my issue at those temps and starting at around 950 miles, too!!!

I've been stalling on taking it in for the same reason...I already got the "we don't hear anything" for another issue that I brought it in for (that still exists!!!). My plans are to take it in for an oil change soon and try to kill 2-3 birds with one stone.

Get it checked out. I test drove a manual EB with PP and on the test drive in gear the whole car was shaking as it was slowing down. Not normal at all. The salesman I was with all he cared about was bass and bright headlights? All the auto's I have test driven have been smooth.

Made an appointment for tomorrow morning while it's still ~30 degrees F in the morning. Will keep you guys posted.

Car was dropped off to the dealership yesterday morning and sat outside all night, which is fine because the cold causes the whining noise.

The guy behind the service desk said the transmission is the problem...he said this without even hearing the noise or checking the car. Of course, I did not accept this for a response...

Went out for a test drive with a mechanic and he thinks it's the break pads picking up moisture and causing the whine. He ruled our the transmission as being a problem because the sound is coming from the back right side of the car.

That's all I know thus far, they should be looking at the car right about now!

Ford replaced my rear rotors and brake pads, apparently there was rust on the rear right rotor. It's supposed to be cold Friday night, so I will leave my car out overnight to ensure the whine is gone.
