Mine goes in tomorrow to have all the oem (Shaker Pro) speakers replaced and a new amp installed. Unfortunately I won't be able to get many (any?) pics of the install process, but I'll have all the leftover parts. ;)
Interesting. What part of the sound system are you unhappy with? I'm ok with the volume but not the speaker sound quality. Not clear or crisp sounding.

I'm better with than I was. ;) I put about 700 miles on in the last few days and had plenty of time to play with it, from different genres to sources and I'd say for 90% of drivers it will be perfectly fine.

For *my* tastes though it isn't clear at all in the mids and highs especially when listening to a lot of guitar/rock/metal style music. Then there's the bass, or lack thereof. I don't wan't spl style that shakes the car and moves a ton of air, but I do want to 'feel' it and hear it at low volume as well as high without any distortion.

The overall volume is good, but there were some times this weekend when I was maxed out and would have liked more and others when it was maxed and it started distorting very badly and I had to turn it down to be clear. This is in large part due to the source material, but I know in the end I'll be a lot happier when it's too loud for my taste maxed out instead of wanting more and never a chance of distorting.

Here's my build:

Focal 165AS3 3 way up front
Focal 165AC Coax rear deck
JL 10w3v3-2 Sub
Custom built ported box (birch wood to save a little weight)
Kenwood XR900-5 Amp

Wow, this speaker count info is very informative. I had assumed 9 and 12 speaker systems had physically more locations for speakers than the 6 speaker system I have in my convertible order! This is actually encouraging news for use with base 6 spkr systems. This means we can just replace our speakers with aftermarket quality three and two way speakers and be ahead of the game. Although, is my understanding about OEM upgrades order correct?: Head unit first to get better signal (Especially if you plan to amplify it!), then speakers, then Amp.

I wonder how good a job a 'powered input' amp ('cuz no line level input not available from stock head unit) from the stock head unit would sound? My guess is that if you go so far as to upgrade the speakers AND add an Amp, you might as well wait until a few aftermarket head units become available for the 6G Mustang and go the Full Monty. I would likely not be willing to lose much if any trunk space for a sub back there, but I would love to see actual pics from those who have (STOLI :paddle: ;) ) as well as how the low end response sounds from the driver's seat. As a now old guy :eyebulge: I would not be interested in car shaking bass, but a bit more low end would be nice. Just curious of the space to bass trade off is.

Stoli, if you are willing to post pics of your speakers, amp location and sub, that would be very helpful for us all to see how a professional shop did the upgrade. I liked your shots with the front door panels off.

Am I correct to assume the actual woofer diameter for front door and back seat sides (my convertible will have no back deck) are the same with the base, 9 & 12 speaker systems? Sweet!

You mind sharing pictures of your sound setup? Are you using factory head unit? How is it all wired, etc.?

I want to add a sub and amp but want to use factory head unit. Maybe later change out speakers.
