When will the S550 be reveiled?

LA Auto show? I know it's not likely but it would be cool to maybe see even just the base trim. Save the GT or SE for the 50th anniversary.

I'd like to see it that soon but with each day it's looking VERY unlikely. I'm starting to think even Detroit is unlikely.

also think there's no point splitting up the trims like that. Showing the base trim is as good as showing them all. The only ones that should be split up (if at all) are the coupe/vert and the hipo versions.

You're right they should show the base and GT together.

Here's the logic I've been assuming.

1) The s550 will debut in 2014.
2) The s550 will debut at a U.S. auto show.
3) The s550 will debut at major U.S. auto show.
4) Two U.S. auto shows are major enough for a Mustang debut - Detroit and New York.
5) Detroit is in January and New York is in April.
6) s550 will debut in January 2014 or April 2014.

One thing as food for thought. Some people have suggested Ford could hold a separate non auto show event for the S550. Whether this would be the reveal, a celebration, or something else, I don't know, but it has been mentioned before.

Even if true, it would still have an auto show debut in 2014, at a major one.

I'm not sure how much this tells us but i am comparing the spy pics for the F-150 and Mustang assuming these 2 monster reveals won't happen at the same show.

F-150 was already showing the B&W cow camo in June.....

Mustang is still fully covered as we know. It'll be interesting to follow how much each car shows by December.

Maybe it could tell us which one is more likely for Detroit :shrug:

Do any of the dealers have any info yet on if order banks for the 2014 are closing like previous years in November? Having that info may help us to more accurately predict when we should see the car. As of yet I haven't heard anything about banks closing at the typical time.

From a reputed dealer on another site:

"I can't name my sources for this info, so you'll just have to trust me on this. Ford will start filling the order banks with 2015 Mustang orders in May 2014, scheduling will start in June 2014, and production starts in July 2014. That makes 2014 Mustang production very long running from February 2013 through July 2014.

There are still some unknowns, such as the date the 2015 order banks open and when 2015 Job 1 is, but it's safe to say that 2015's won't start showing up on dealer lots until August 2014 at the very earliest or maybe even September if there are production or quality control issues at the onset of 2015 production.

For those who are expecting some sort of 50th anniversary model by April 17th, 2014, the production timing above tells me that a 50th anniversary model will more than likely have to be on the outgoing S197 platform (2014) instead of the all-new S550 platform (2015). Rumors persist that there will be a 2014-1/2 50th anniversary edition built in very limited numbers to finish off S197 production to keep sales strong right to the end of the current body style. Again, just a rumor about the anniversary car"


My guess? If there's to be an S197 based 14.5, I'd expect to see that in LA..........closely followed by:

Detroit in January - F150 or S550 GT & V6

NY in April - S550 GT (or 'vert / GT350 if the GT was shown at Detroit)

50th Anniversary Celebrations - ALL OF 'EM

Why is Ford being so secretive about the reveal? We are now 3 1/2 months away from Detriot and about 6 months away from New York and the actual 50th Birthday. I would think by now they would say for sure when and where we will see the S550 Mustang, but i guess not. They love building up the hype!

I wouldn't call showing a mirror and some door pillars "showing cow camo" just yet. The majority is still covered. If they shed everything save for the front and rear covers, then we're in business.

My guess is they'll show the F150 in LA, then put the Mustang on center stage at Detroit, creating the buzz, and making 2014 the year of Mustang. By unveiling it at Detroit, you can then show it in Chicago and NY and still have the hype. Maybe we'll see the SVT at NY on the 50th anniversary? It's still too early to tell. We should start hearing whispers of LA here shortly.

if Ford doesn't make the anniversary 2014 1/2 car an s550 I think they will be making a huge mistake. What better way to launch the brand new platform/body style then with a smash anniversary edition? They did it in 99 for the 35th, so why not in 14 1/2 with the s550?

From a sales persepctive,they know we're chomping at the bit waiting on this new car, I would think sales would become stagnet
