From a reputed dealer on another site:

"I can't name my sources for this info, so you'll just have to trust me on this. Ford will start filling the order banks with 2015 Mustang orders in May 2014, scheduling will start in June 2014, and production starts in July 2014. That makes 2014 Mustang production very long running from February 2013 through July 2014.

:

If this is true and I don't know if it is, then I think it represents a major slip in schedule by Ford.

Here's the logic I've been assuming.

1) The s550 will debut in 2014.
2) The s550 will debut at a U.S. auto show.
3) The s550 will debut at major U.S. auto show.
4) Two U.S. auto shows are major enough for a Mustang debut - Detroit and New York.
5) Detroit is in January and New York is in April.
6) s550 will debut in January 2014 or April 2014.
In order to have a 2014 1/2 model the car will have to go on sale in April. So look for January for the debut. Just my two cents.

If they want to race this season, the 2015 has to be ready before January 25th 2014. That is the first race of the now United Sportscar Racing (USR) which is a merger of both Grand AM and American Le Mans Series (ALMS). A lot of manufacturer money is being thrown into this organization... Big names mostly...

I'm almost Positive we should start getting teaser images in January, possibly even December but nothing big. Kinda like the small reveals they did for the 2010 Models, with a Big Unveiling/AnniversaryParty/Debut at NYIAS April 17, 2014 to coincide with the 50th Anniversary. Exactly 50 Years to the day and at the same Venue that the Original Mustang was Released. It's too big a milestone not to make it a Huge Event. I also think Ford's going to keep the wraps on the car pretty tight till that point as well just to make it such a Big Reveal. I know that's what I would do if it were up to me. As for an Anniversary Edition, I do not believe for One Second Ford would do an Anniversary Package on the Outgoing Model. It makes No Sense with the actual 50th Anniversary falling so close to the release of such a Major Redesign of the Mustang.

I agree with TampaBear67. April 17th was the genesis for the production Mustang and it was revealed at the New York World Fair. The 50th Anniversary is a huge milestone for Mustang, therefore the 2015 Mustang should be unveiled at the New York Auto Show (since the New York World Fair closed down) in April 17th. It would be historically the right way to do it.

Agree with this.

If they were going to do it with the S197, it would have happened already IMO. It's time to wind down the S197, not repackage it with some stripes and badges for a few months. Especially when those few months would be falling so close to April 2014 when the S550 noise is going to be in full swing. I imagine that would be pretty embarrassing having the 50th anniversary model being drowned out by the anticipation of the next big thing.

True, but if S550 isn't going to be on the streets until late Summer 2014, then Ford is going to need something to keep S197 sales afloat. If it's not a 14.5 package, they're going to need to do something !

It has been insinuated a few times that the late launch wasn't "Plan A" by Ford. In that scenario I can see Ford being forced to do something like a basic stripe or accessory package on the S197 and call it the anniversary edition to try and milk what sales that they can. Unfortunate if true.

I gotta think which model year is going to be the 50th anniv edition is not a decision made lightly and I doubt a 3 month delay changes that. There must be other things they can do rather than ruining the anniversary plans.

That said, IMO the first option for a Plan B is more discounts on the 14 for the extra months it's available.

A couple of quotes from another website. Seems there are now 3 sales reps quoting that order banks for S550 won't be available until July. Make of that what you will.

Also, on the second quote........not sure how accurate his info can be on a 14.5 based on the S197, but it makes sense to me. Whether it's launched in April 2014 or available in April 2014 is another question. I'd hope it's shown in LA next month, with deliveries perhaps in April, although that seems a long delay

What I don't want is for any S197 based 14.5 to be guest of honour at the 50th celebrations. That HAS to be S550 :paddle:

"Well take this for what it's worth. My friend who is a Ford sales manager informed me to get the word out. His order bank for the 2015 Mustang isn't available until July. He and I are both disappointed that April 17th appears to be unattainable! Now onto the look of the '15. His Ford contact has seen the car and the corporate theme (I.E. Fusion brand look) is not there! His contact is a Mustang fan and he loves the new car. So take it for what it is my fellow Mustang fanatics!!!
"

"It appears that Brian has been right on the money all along.. As I have a friend who's both a sales rep and financial loan officer for my local Ford dealership here in Pittsburgh.

And his Ford rep just recently confirmed there will be a 50th anniversary 2014.5 Mustang coming out in April of 2014 in the current platform as the upcoming S550 15MY won't be in dealerships until July of 14 due to a 3 month delay."

It's starting to look like I, and many others, are going to have to accept that if we order a car we aren't going to get it until probably September. That's essentially just shy of a year from today.

This is a huge disappointment if true. I feel even worse for people further North than I am.

That last part just sounds totally ludicrous to me. We all know April 2014 is the latest Ford will show the S550. Hell or high water they are not missing that one. The only other possibility is it comes earlier.

I just can't wrap my head around Ford coming out in April 2014 with a 2014.5 built on the current platform amid all the hooplah of the 2015.

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it.... because it's drowned out by the S550..... well, you get the point.

I also think we need to dispel the idea of an LA reveal for the F150 or the Mustang. It's simply not big enough for either. The F150 is the king of the hill right now, it'll be Detroit or NY. It's too important to Ford's pocketbooks. The Mustang is too big of a milestone and its ties to NY are well known. Of course, Detroit would be a big enough stage as well.

The only thing we can hope to see in LA is a concept. Last year I would have said this too is impossible since its too close to Detroit/NY. But with some recent credible rumors about delayed production, an S550 concept may be just what Ford needs to keep the natives from being restless.

"Ford Mustang" on Facebook just posted this ... http://ford.to/1e8SdWB

"Since the days of Henry Ford, the automobile and the city of Detroit have grown up together, each influencing the other. As the industry and city flourished, architecture and culture thrived as chronicled at the Detroit Historical Museum, home of the Ford Mustang II concept that previewed the production model."

LA isn't a huge truck market, like Texas or the Midwest. I'm not sure it makes sense from a marketing standpoint to unveil F150 there. Mustang has been unveiled there both for the 2010 and 2013 changes, however, the powertrain changes in 2011 were done at an event in Detroit. With this being the 50th, a special event would really be fitting, instead of piggybacking on an auto show for exposure.
