Lol, nobodies explained why the sidelights are so hard yet...

They're just in an awkward spot, quite a reach through the wheel liner. They also seem to be quite a tight fit and there's little room to get hold of them. Big_g and Ian recommended needle-nose pliers and that did the trick but its a fiddly job.
