He can do it on an exchange now. So will send you a re trimmed wheel to your spec and you send him your stock one. So no waiting around
it took mine about 5 days. Pre exchange.

Does the flat bottom of the GT350 wheel give you any extra clearance below it?

I think I might have to get a re-trim on my 18 when it arrives. I bought a GT350 wheel last time, trimmed in the stock alcantara and I wasn't impressed with it. The alcantara got very gummy and shiny quite quickly, and the centre line was actually off centre! It drove me batty! Perforated leather would be much better.

Though, the MY18 models have a heated wheel now? That may throw a spanner in the works.

Not really. As you turn the wheel the space is taken up by the round portion of it anyway. In a road car like the Mustang its so you can tell, by touch alone, where the bottom of the wheel is so you can keep your eyes on the road/track.

2018 steering wheels look like they may be an improvement on the stock 2015-2017 version, but I haven't touched one to verify.

they're thicker as they're all heated. Leather feel; i doubt it's nappa but anythings better than the vinyl crud on the old one.

The old wheels were leather. They were just really, really cheap leather. They were probably, in fact, Nappa.

Something to keep in mind: "Nappa" just means a leather made by tanning with chromium sulphate and sanded (since its a top-grain). Just because advertising says "Nappa" doesn't mean its a silly-high quality leather. Its an ambiguos term so take it with a pinch of salt. Its why a nappa interior in a Bentley costs more than an entire Ford Fiesta and then some.

If money is no object, get a full-grain leather steering wheel. That's the best leather money can buy.

Oh it was pretty bad. Slimy when it got hot, too. The vinyl trim on the seats in my Optima feel like better quality leather than the actual leather on the Mustang's steering wheel.
