I did contemplate having the factory paint the 'thingy' ;)that's being fitted but they wanted another $600 or more so it will remain black.

Looks like I'm the only one who likes 'em,about to have them painted a nice understated purple in fact:( to go with the black thingy that's going on top of it in 2 weeks.....
Mines painted red ;)!
I like it too. Bought a second one off Combat Wally so I can paint it safe in the knowledge I won't be wrecking mine...

To those that painted and have achieved (and maintained) satisfactory results, what brand/type of paint did you use?

Standard high temp primer - 3 layers
Halfords mixed to match spray can of race red - 2 layers
gloss black warhammer paint - specifically made for models - 2 layers
Detailing - Black paint from them aeroplane models.

Make sure the area is well ventilated, you have plenty of masking tape and newspaper or bin bags if you're wanting specific designs or styles.

Any 'auto paint' will work fine ;)!

Does it need to be high temp primer... it doesn't get <THAT> hot does it?
It doesn't, but, i don't want the paint flaking, the engine bay generally can get hot, so it was more for a sense of security than anything, I had it lying around, so used it

I'm surprised that nobody in the US makes them prepainted in available car colours or at least the most popular colours anyway, blue is the only alternative that I have seen.

Blue, Black, Red, Carbon Fibre, Orange.

Tbh - I toiled with the idea of doing it for people  Didn't think everyone wanted to be coverless for ages.

Not just the tiny weight reduction. If you are running a strut tower brace, you can't remove the engine cover for access to anything under it without removing the strut tower. And since a battery cable locator uses one of the strut tower studs (I assume the same in RHD), you have to disconnect the battery to remove the strut tower. So I tossed my cover soon after purchase.
I can get the cover off without removing my strut brace (Ford Racing).

Guess I should have said: can't take the cover off without rubbing against the strut tower brace as its pulled out. I could remove it with the strut tower brace in place but it would have marred the surface of the cover eventually, if not the very first time.

But I do have a GT350R strut tower brace so I can't say for sure it doesn't sit closer to the GT engine cover than the GT strut tower brace.
